Just wanna know how long everyone's pearl last. Mine lasts about 5 days with just 10-20 mins of talk time each day, nothing else. Does anyone have any tips on saving the juice? Would be really appreciated if i can use it for a week at least.

Mine lasts a little over a day, but I have Google Talk and Yak-On (with 90 second server ping time) running 24/7, web browse a decent amount, leave bluetooth on, and get my mail pushed to it with BIS. Rarely actually use the phone part of it.

On the other hand, I keep it plugged in and charging at work and at home, so its really only an issue if I go somewhere for a weekend.

Wow thought I was getting little battery time, guess I'll have to treat it more like a handheld than a phone.

i read somewhere that if you want to extend your phone's battery life, you should first drain the batt completely, and then once its drained, charge it to it's 100%. something about the chemicals in the batt losing its potency over time, and that draining it and recharging to its fullest gives it back that lost potency. i tried it with my phone, and my battery has actually lasted alot longer since.

That used to be true, but isn't anymore with lithium-ion batteries.

ARGH! Can't post URLs yet, but here's a quote from a battery page...

Quote:
Unlike nickel and lead-based batteries, a new lithium-ion pack does not need cycling through charging and discharging. Priming will make little difference because the maximum capacity of lithium-ion is available right from the beginning. Neither does a full discharge improve the capacity of a faded pack. However, a full discharge/charge will reset the digital circuit of a 'smart' battery to improve the state-of-charge estimation

I got 4 plus days keeping it on all day, off at night. Minimal talk time, maybe 10 emails/day. Some IM and txt. Battery at 15% before charging. I'd say it's way better than my prior phone in standby time (3 days) with increased usage because of email and data. Good battery IMO.

I guess I dont understand the need to stretch the battery life to a week. I use my Pearl as I need it. It is MY productivity device. Somedays I never use the phone portion. I am a heavy data and txt/emai user and always have plenty left over each nite. I throw it on a charger every night. Used my 8700 like this for a full year and battery life is still outstanding. If you travel then get the appropriate charger(s) you need and charge as needed. If you feel you have to stretch to a full week, perhaps you have picked an inappropriate technology. Try using a MotoQ. With the OEM batery and almost no use, you are lucky if you make it a full day. The BB smokes that... YMMV

The best way I've found to conserve battery is to enable the Auto on/off feature.

I have my phone turn off at 11:30 PM and back on at 7:00 AM. Just those few hours have given me more than a full day of extra use.

I get roughly 7-8 hours with heavy use... I constantly use yahoo messenger, google talk and BB messenger... I also do send and receive a lot of email and text messages... I spend little time on the phone...

A big battery life impactor you can't do anything about is also the signal strength where you happen to be located. GSM/GPRS devices up their own power (and power consumption) when they detect weak signal strength in the cell they're in in order to try and get the user a better quality of service.

At home for me it used to be a weak signal and my (8700g) battery life wasn't good. Much better now that the network operator has tweaked the cell so I get a better signal (went from in/out of service all the the time to 2 to 4 bars one day, which was nice). Now with Bluetooth off battery drops just 5% over night if I leave the BB on.
