These are two very different BlackBerry models. Tell us what you are going to use it for and what's important to you. How much email to plan to handle. This way we will be better equipped to offer ideas.

It pretty much boils down to whether or not the SD card slot, camera, and media capabilities of the Pearl are important to you. Also you need to consider whether or not you have a strong preference for SureType or full qwerty.

Like everyone on this thread says, it really depends on what you need it for. Pearl is good for multimedia if that's important, and the 8700 is great if you email a lot (that part's my opinion because of the QWERTY keyboard, although for others, the Suretype of the Pearl works great too).

I email a lot and SureType works great for me. I can type just as fast as anyone on an 8700. I luse my Pearl for a thumbdrive, an mp3 player, a movie player, and all the rest of the stuff that BB does. The 8700 can't do that. However, we can't decide for you.
One more little tidbit, if you to to a cellur phone store to look be sure you talk to a rep who actualy *uses* a Pearl. Otherwise he/she will tell you it doesn't work. It DOES work and it works well.
Just get the one you like the best.

Great Choice !
I have found that the longer I have my BlackBerry, the more fun it is. There is so much to learn & so many useful features that I continue to discover. So as a result, at least for me, is that I'm not getting bored with it.
Or conversely, I'm not having to live with a slow user interface or instability & problems as I did with the Treo -Moto Q, or the Blackjack. All devices that, while not bad, are far from being as reliable and useful as a BB. What good is a boatload of features without stability, & reliability?
As someone who tends to be rather picky about the various features in a phone, this is the very first brand & model that suits me perfectly.
Enjoy your new BlackBerry & this great forum !
Cheers

This is GREAT advice.
I think more Pearl sales are lost because of untrained, inexperienced "sales reps" in the stores, simply because they do not understand SureType & BlackBerrys in general.
Personally I find SureType brilliant & I too can type just as fast if not faster with it on my 7130c than I can on my 8700c with a qwerty keyboard.
I enjoy the BlackBerry platform & cannot imagine using anything else.
Cheers

Good choice. I have the 7130e and I'm considering getting the 8703e. Let me know how it works out for you.
