Default GPS issues...

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone been having any?

I can't get my phone to get GPS on Poynt or BB Maps. Saw a post saying they added a new cell tower based location service...

RIM Adds Non-GPS Location Feature to BlackBerries (Phone Scoop)

But surely that wouldn't turn off the capabilities to run GPS for other programs.

Google Maps has found my location (in my living room) "within 3 meters".

Well got Google to find me within 2600 meters, kinda far think that is just off cell tower location. Might need a new unit.

Sydman, you need to be outside with a clear view of the sky to get a good GPS lock, especially if you are having trouble. GPS isn't designed to work indoors. Some get it to work, my iPhone for instance usually has a decent lock when I am near a window. the BB, not necessarily so.

The 2600 meters is a position generated using cell tower triangulation. Using cell tower data, you should normally see a position between 1700 to 2600 meters. Gets you close so GPS can find itself eventually.

Yeah check and check, went out on my break to try and get clear view. Still showing within 2600 meters, caught it for a second and showed within 7 meters. Then it refreshed and went back out. Might be having some issues, this is a refurb that I recieved a few weeks ago.
