Hey guys,

My 8gb microsd card just came in the mail today. Didn't have to do anything special and I just popped it in the phone. Recognized all 8gb right off the bat. Just an fyi, I have a Tmobile Curve running the stock OS. Hope this helps anyone who is considering getting one

You're right ltj13. I guess I jumped the gun on this one. thanks for the heads up.

And as for you, vincentnyc, you calling me a n00b is like a pot calling the kettle black. maybe you should get your facts straight before correcting someone else.

Sharpie00, did you confirm that 8GB is not support on the OS, but works as a 4GB card?

I need to buy a card, and I would like to get a 8GB to be a little more future-proof.

Cheers,
Kev

if you are looking at an 8gb you might consider getting it. Keep in mind that the current releases of the 4.3 OS (on the Pearl 2s) supports them just fine. One would think it would be just a matter of time before 8gb is supported on other devices.

Hi S0dhi,

I wanted the same thing. When I put the card in the phone, it recognized it as 8GB. The problem was, I couldn't get Roxio Media Manager to work with it unless it was formatted. Thus, it took it down to 4GB. I'm guessing it had to do with the OS as everyone has mentioned. I'm just counting on the 4.3 OS to be released on our phones so I can utilize all 8GB.

Hi michael_dugan,

I'll have to double check. When I bought it off ebay, it was stated as a SDHC (but I'll have to take it out just to confirm). I'm leaving for work now, so I'll do it when I come home this evening.

Please note that all MicroSD cards of capacity 4Gb and larger are actually MicroSDHC cards (HC = High Capacity). They use FAT32 filesystem to address the larger memory space. Since they are not backwards-compatible with MicroSD hosts (such as USB card readers, or dedicated slots on your computer), you will need to have a device which is capable of reading the card.

The Curve hardware is capabable of reading the MicroSDHC cards, but as noted above, you will need to wait for the next OS release before they can be properly recognized.

Since 2Gb cards are dirt cheap right now (only $14-15 shipped, see the Media Center Forum sticky on prices), I would suggest getting one of those cards for the short-term. As time goes on, prices will continue to drop on the 4Gb and 8Gb cards.

My thinking was to get a 2Gb card cheap now, and start searching prices for larger cards once the new OS comes out. I fully expect that the price will have dropped $15 by then, so I will end up with two cards instead of one. I plan to turn my 2Gb card into a flash drive using a handy little USB portable reader.

I've been using a 4GB forever with no problems. While I would hold off on an 8GB for now, there's no reason why not to go for the 4GB.
