Smile My Old 7290 needs a new purpose

Please Login to Remove!

I have replaced my 7290 with a 8800. I also have an 8700.

My 8800 and 8700 are connected to my data/service plans from AT&T and Verizon.

My 7290 is still in perfect condition. I would like to give it a new purpose in life.

Any suggestion on ways I can use the 7290 without a data/service plan?

You could package it up and ship it to me. That way it would be USED to make me happy!

If you have a stack of papers you could use it to hold down all those papers so they don't slide or get blown around. I also have one of these in my closet, along with no fewer than 6 7100/7105t's.

I keep an old 7100 and 8700 in my auto glove pocket so my 7 yr old can continuously ask me, "Dad, can I have one of your old BlackBerrys?".

Default Great use for old Blackberrys

I'm a missionary in the Philippines. I recently gave away an unlocked 7230, 7290, and an 8100 away to some youth and children's volunteers. If you want to send it to me, you can make some very thankful people happy. They don't mind if it's scratched, etc. I can even give you a tax-deductible receipt for your giving. Home

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

You could use it to create some DIY guides for the BBFAQ

I also keep my 7290 as back up. By far 72XX has the best keyboard layout.

- Backup device. I've had my BlackBerry fail on me during travel (ran over by car), and I was lucky to have this spare in a bottom pouch of my bag. The 7290 is so light you can put it in a front pouch of a laptop bag or suitcase and forget about it until you end up really needing it. Leave the old charger behind though, all new USB BlackBerry chargers all work with older models, too so use that one, and it's very easy to buy USB chargers.

- The 7290 can be used as a backup addressbook next to your kitchen phone. It is safe to sync two BlackBerries to the same BlackBerry Desktop.

- The 7290 can be used as a battery charger for other 7XXX BlackBerry devices. (I use my old 8700 as a battery charger for a spare Curve battery)

- The 7290 can Bluetooth-chat to other BlackBerry, with the help of a Bluetooth chatting program. I tested one and it works, although it was a little buggy. The new version may work better, especially if you upgrade your 7290 to OS 4.1.

- The 7290 still functions with Bluetooth keyboards ( Freedom Input Ltd - Home ) and can be used as a portable data-entry device.

- Digital photo frame. The 7290 can hold a few photos which you can run in a slideshow on your desk.

I would hang onto your valuable7290. I got rid of mine & now I regret it. As per the prior posts here, there is alot that can be done with it. And I will be the first to agree it has the finest keyboard ever. I would love to have the features & components of my Curve loaded into the case if a 7290.in my opinion it would be the ultimate BB. Not the smallest or thinnest, but the most comfortable to use with a lightning fast super accurate keyboard!
