I have never tried sending text while on the phone. I thought that it wasn't able to be done.

Only one radio connection.
So either phone, text, or e-mail at any given time.

If the OP is talking about SMS, it is indeed possible to send/receive SMS text messages while on a voice call without 3G. I've been doing this for years, on many different phones (BBs and non-BBs, all GSM). Email or anything else that uses data is a different story, and it needs 3G to work while on the phone. I don't know if CDMA is any different in this respect though.

I imagine the OP knows this because he's done it before. As far as why it won't work on your knew phone, I'm not sure. I hit the back button (to the right of the trackball), go into my messages and reply to the message. Are you getting a red X? What exactly is the difficulty?

..it is indeed possible to send email and txt msgs while on the phone . . . the OP did in fact was able to do so as stated . . . the question was why it stopped functioning . . . my answer: I don't know why it would stop . . . my solution: if it were me, I would refresh the OS . . . back-up BB, wipe handheld, restore data, resend Service Books, etc . . .

my 2 cents

I decided to try true multitasking on my Curve, it's a real adventure, here is what I did at the same time.

Call a Friend
Text another friend
Make a sandwich and began eating it while playing brick breaker
While composing an email
While sending an MMS
While taking a picture of my messy sandwich
Dropped the Curve in the sink by accident.
Dried if off and found that the only thing that worked was......well you get the picture.

Ok....Ok....so much for my sense of humor.....Sheesh... I must ask myself why? would someone want to text and call at the very same time.....

I don't know...talking to one lady while texting another? Sounds feasible to me.

But seriously, I guess when I'm on the phone and get a text message, I respond to it. The phone beeps in my ear when I get one, so that's how I found out this was possible.

Default BIS email attachment not working

I'm from Pakistan and using BIS service from Mobilink network here. From the last one month, we all in Pakistan, are unable to send email attachments from our BB handsets running BIS.
We all contacted Mobilink (an Orascom Company) and they replied that RIM is working on it to solve the issue. Mobilink says that RIM is not sure when this issue will be resolved, it may take another 2 to 3 monts.
Please someone tell RIM to solve this issue.

Welcome to the forums akc786. I'm not sure about your situation or how to get in contact with RIM about this issue but you will probably want to start your own thread or do a Forum Search to find if it's currently being discussed; that way you will get more exposure on your topic. I hope you can resolve the issue!
