Default Blackberry Pearl Address Book Issues

Please Login to Remove!

Hello I just got a Pearl and am having a lot of issues with the address book.

1. I copied all the entries from my Sim to my BB.
2. Used the Desktop Software to export a .csv file on my desktop.
3. Edited the file, made the necessary changes to the numbers, added email addresses.
4. When i try to import it back into BB it fails (record 248 of 249).
5. When i looked at the BB, most of the changes were there but even the old names, numbers are now there.

Questions -

How do i completely delete my BB's address book.
How do i then import the .csv back into the BB.
I dont want to use Outlook because it means double the work for me at this point.

I have gone through all the other posts and have tried almost everything. Is there anything i am missing.

Thank you,

Vishal

Try these steps to clear out the handheld's address book...
  1. Start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Click Backup and Restore.
  3. The "Backup and Restore" screen appears. Click Advanced.
  4. A progress bar will display while the application data is being retrieved.
  5. Select the desired "Handheld Database" entry and click Clear.
NOTE: To select multiple database entries for backup, press and hold the Ctrl key, then select the desired entries.
  6. A warning message will appear explaining the "Handheld Database" to be cleared.
    • Click Yes to proceed with deleting the entry.
    • Click No to end.
  7. A progress bar will display while the application data is cleared.
  8. Click Close to exit the Advanced Backup and Restore.
  9. Click Close to exit Backup and Restore.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Vishal, after you have completed Bobross' suggestion above to clear your address book, you can then use Desktop Manager to import your /csv file. Open DM, click on the CONFIGURE tab, and instead of MS Outlook, you will select ASCII Import/Export as the database to sync to.

Thank you, worked like a charm. First deleted it then restored it.

Failed at 158 out of 159 but i see that it copied all the contacts.

I had a similar problem using Outlook, would fail before completing the addresses. I upgraded the Desktop software to 4.2.1 (I think this is the same as 4.2 SP1). Once upgraded the sync worked with no errors and all addresses transferred. Welcome to the Blackberry world!
