Default Holster Question

Please Login to Remove!

I've had my BB pearl since Tuesday and I noticed that some options have "when in holster." I did use the search function but when I typed in holster many of the topics were just about the Seidio cases and different types of holsters so I'm asking you guys once again >.<. How does the phone know when it is in the holster? Or do I have to press something to enable holster mode? I use stand by when I put it in my holster so is that holster or what do i need to do?

i believe holster mode is triggered by a magnet in the blackberry's case. I think it goes into holster mode by itself.

My holster is closed by a magnet but is it really activated by magnet? I don't know if my holster is the OEM holster from BB as when I went to the cell phone dealership they just gave me a leather one. They tend to have a lot of holsters imported from Asia and what not so I doubt the one I have is the OEM. Is the magnet really the way they put in holster mode?

Some holsters and cases have a magnet embedded.
That magnet enables the phone to go into standbye mode.
Your settings with 'in and out of holster' should be fine.

Go ahead and check, go to your fridge and grab a souviner magnet and wave it over the keypads.

Yeah, ditto to all that has been said.

When buying a case, some will say it has the ability to go into sleep mode or some will simply say it has "the magnets."

However, many cases you see on eBay will NOT have such "sleeper" magnets in the case, they simply have a magnet to hold the flap closed. Those cannot activate the Pearl's "holster modes."

"Holster mode" on the Pearl means you can set your notifiers, tones and display to work differently when in the case [or holster] as opposed to it either not being in a case or in some type of case or holster without magnets.

Perhaps a video is worth a thousand words.

Here is a little video I made demonstrating how cases with magnets work. This is the Seidio side mounted leather case. A very good item.

Notice the display going on and off as the phone is slipped into the case.

A bit corny, the movie, but I tried to jazz it up a little in light of the subject [plus I need the practice in making movies].

Thank you very much SF, somehow you have been helping me with many of my questions and problems. Well I tried to see if my phone would do that with my case and it didn't so I guess I'm going to either get that Seidio case or live without holster mode... when I think about it... it would be very convinient to have a holster mode instead of just pressing the lock and the standby lol

I just bought and received the new Sena leather vertical holster. I had used Sena cases before with my PDA's and they are very nice and protective as well. The Sena case has no top and you just slide the phone out of the case. It automatically goes in the Standby or Sleep when you put it in the case. It slightly on the pricey side, but Sena makes a great product.

I have had bad experiences with holsters without tops that cover them. I run a lot also, I like my health, would this holster protect it from falling out even at running speeds?

FOR BB OEM holsters, the phone's keypad must be towards the bottom, as opposed to the top. Otherwise the embedded magnets will not turn the phone into standby.

I always thought the magnets in the holster flap would turn it off, and hence orient the phone the reverse manner.

Are there plastic holsters (e.g. Seidio) with magnets?
I was looking at Seidio "SPRING CLIP SWIVEL HOLSTER FOR UN-SKINNED 8100"
_...__seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=526 (can't post link yet) and can't see for sure without calling them whether the holster contains a "sleeper magnet".

Are those cheaper ones on flea-bay with or without magnets?
Is there a difference in quality with Seidio or are all plastic holsters are pretty much the same as the ones I used for flip phones?

The Seidio holsters do have the sleeper magnet, and you will find they are a much higher quality case than what you could find on eBay.

I thought it says right there in red letters that it has the sleeper function.

And ditto on kasperapd statement, Seidio are the best. See my post on comparing eBay's cheapo cases with Seidio cases. Use the search feature in here and enter "cheapo" and my thread will pop up.
