Problem with backlight after updating to OS 5
Please Login to Remove!
I updated both my blackberry and my wife's blackberry yesterday evening. Everything works great except for the backlight. I have to backlight brightness set to 100% but it's not as bright as it used to be. I had this problem before and Verizon changed the BB (there were other problems with that BB). I also have the "Automatically Dim Backlight" option set to OFF, but it still dims after a few seconds. I've done a reset, and a battery pull, but it doesn't fix the problem. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions how to fix this issue?

Taft, are you using the device primarily in landscape mode?
Turn it portrait-wise and and see if the backlight brightens.
I have noticed this for the past week running OS 5 on mine. Let me know if yours does the same.

Yeah. It looks like it's dimming when it's in landscape mode. That's Weird. Any idea how to fix this issue?

I'm having a similar problem. When I wake up the phone in portrait mode, it seems to be lit as it always has been. Then if I turn to landscape mode, the screen will dim some. Then, if I rotate back to portrait, the dimness remains for 10-15 seconds and then the phone will gradually brighten up. Very weird.

This obviously is an issue. I'm going to call verizon. Maybe everyone who has this problem should too so we can have RIM fix it on the next update.

I have this issue too.
See the thread "Storm was working great. Them updated to 5 and..." I have this issue and others. By the way in my case, it makes no difference what orientation position the phone is in. It is dium. I too have had to crank what was at 30% up to 100%, and it dim too dark too early.

Yep, I am having the same backlight problem having just downloaded OS 5 yesterday. Very annoying. Seems when it has been idle and I pick it up in landscape mode, it will just stay dim. It does brighten after 5 - 10 seconds in portrait mode, but that is driving me nuts!!!

Man, I thought I was crazy.
It is really annoying to have the backlight dim in landscape mode, but i thought it was just me.
Hope its something they fix soon.
Didnt happen in the leaked 5.0 versions I tried before the official.

I am having the same issues. To be more specific, I originally ONLY updated BBM to version 5.0.0.33 (at the time, my device software was still 4.7). After the BBM upgrade, I started having the backlight issues. I figured fully upgrading the device to 5.0 would resolve the issue, but it remains dim.

Storm 1 only, no not necessarily.
Atuarre, see my post regarding the Storm 2 screen dimming. I am having the issue once in a while on the 2 as well. And by the way, this is under similar lighting with no ambient light changes in the room.

Also having this issue, very annoying. Blackberry's used to be reliable because they had a minimal DOS like software. Now, they're just like anybody else, except I'm sucked into the system!

wondering why
I am wondering why it changed however when I updated the one core file they said was available for my 2. I see no other issues. But this was obvious as soon as I turned the unit horizontal. If I had known this I would have bypassed the update. Like I said, it made no change to the version number so I have no idea what was done.

Thats interesting. Mine came with 5.0.0.320 and was purchased on the 6th of Nov. Connecting to DM, it has not indicated an upgrade available other than the one to the "core application" which made no change to my OS number. It did effect the backlight. Wish I could go back to the setup as it was out of the box without undoing all my additions.
