Just a tip for those who don't know this. RIM has a support portal that allows you to check a device for activation on your BES.
We have been letting our lawyers buy their own BB's for over a year now.
We let them know ahead of time about the "Enterprise" data plan they must purchase before we can activate them on our BES.
Before we would have to assume they got the correct plan before the first bill.
It was "hit and miss" when it came to activating the devices. Sometimes the activation would work and other times you would have to try it again. In the end it was a pain to wait for the device to time out then follow up with the lawyer to make sure he/she had the correct plan.
The only sure fire way to find out is to call RIM and give them the PIN and they would tell you if the device was on the enterprise plan.
RIM does have a support portal that will allow you to check if a device is BES ready:
https://www.blackberry.com/besc/dashboard/
You enter the PIN and the IMEI number and it will tell you if it's enterprise ready.
Not sure if you need a support plan or not to access the portal (we have a support plan).
Just thought I would pass this info along
