Default 9900 7.1 F/W Mobile Hotspot Functionality

Can someone please explain why Blackberry have required the setup process to enter in an APN (access point name) with username / password provided by my mobile network provider ?
Surely it has nothing to do with them if I choose to create a Hotspot based upon the wireless data that I am paying for ? I do this on my Android and I dont need anything like the above.
Am I missing something obvious and being stupid ?

No, this is by design. Hotspot on BlackBerry requires access to a regular APN, not just BIS. Most providers will offer a hotspot add-on for BlackBerry data plans.

Hmmm why by design it makes no sense but is this 'just Blackberry' ? It's my data who should care how I use it..

Probably your carrier does.
