Default Handhelds freezing during data transmission with v4 OS

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone else having this issue? We are running BES 4.0 as well as v4 os on several different hadware platforms with three different wireless vendors. They all seem to freeze up immediately after receiving data. After a few seconds (as long as 10 on 7850s) the units unlock and spit out any cached key strokes.

BlackBerry 7850's do not exist -- do you mean the 7750?

The 7750 are extremely slow units, make sure you free up at least 1.5 megabytes of memory, then incoming reception will be sped up -- basically incoming packets won't cause the hourglass anymore, once you free up memory. 7750 are well known for memory shortage problems and getting low in memory causes massive delays in incoming packets.

On my BlackBerry 7280, incoming packets only freeze my BlackBerry for 1/2 of a second or so.

Which version of BlackBerryOS4 have you upgraded to?

Sorry- typo- I meant 7750s. We are using 4.0.0. The release number depends on the vendor. We have units from Bell, Rogers, and Telus. Thanks for the memory tip. I will check that out.

Default Additional Info

I have a 7100t on the Legacy AT&T Wireless systems and my device works great... Every once in a while though I do notice this same issue, especially after booting the device. Mine is password protected and when entering the password it is delayed by about 2 seconds, from the time I type it and the time it appears on the screen, it's weird the Wireless portion of the device isn't even on, but as soon as I turn wireless on and it starts to register on the network and make sure that my device has all the appropriate system information I as well receive the hour glass for about 5 secs....

I just got off the phone with Blackberry and their tech confirmed the newest update (7100E_PBrER4.0.2_rel42_PL1.8.0.137_A4.0.2.32-REBUNDLE.exe) for T-Mobile users.

Fixes one perticular bug..... The rebooting bug. It fixes a issue with the radio he said. There are no other issues resolved with this upgrade. The upgrade doease not take anything away.

This is all from BB. I called Tmobile and they transferred me to the bb guys.

Default Handhelds Freezing

Hi there, I first experienced this problem about 2 months ago, just after upgradeing from BES3.6 to Bes 4.0.

We have 7730 and 7100g devices. (My 7100 also did this under BES3.6)

I spent hours on the phone with RIM, who got me to do everything from completely wiping the devices through to reinstalling the BES.

They then blamed the available memory, but when confronted witht he fact that even the 7730 had over 10Mb free, they backed off on that one.

Nothing helped.

Then I managed to speak directly with a RIM tech guy who was visiting Perth, and he admitted that it was an issue that noone knew the answer to.
he promised to take it back to Canada and look into it for me.

While I waitied for a response I went back and applied all available Service Packs and Hot Fixes.

The problem is not completely resolved, but I did notice that as soon as I installed SP1 the freezing time was dramatically reduced.

I only notice it now when the devices has been off for an extended amount of time and hence when turned on, there is a lot of data streaming in.

Default Handhelds Freezing

Hi,

Did you ever get a response from RIM about this problem? We upgraded to BES 4 a few months ago and have exactly the same issue with the 7730handhelds. Users that have the 8700 model work fine though.

Thanks.

I had the same issue with 8 of my 500 BB's. I went into the BlackBerry Manager (Im running 4.0.4.6) and if you open up an effected users' properties, under the redirection tab, look to see if the "Override Address" is checked. I don't know why it was checked on these users, but it was. I unchecked this box on the effected users and the issue went away. There is also a hotfix for this as stated above.
