you use first connect your bb to your comp, then open up desktop manager, then go to media and from there you can put your mp3's on your pearl =)

Download the latest version of Desktop Manager:
Where can I download Desktop Manager and / or the Handheld OS? - BlackBerryFAQ

Load it on your PC. Connect your BB to your computer via USB.
Open Desktop Manager. Click on Media Manager. Follow the instructions from there to move your songs from your PC to your Blackberry's SD card.

Download the one that says Desktop Manager, Ver 4.2, Service Pack 1. Do not download one that says OS anything.

A double-sided window should pop up. Access your media card on the right side, and find your song files on the left side. Drag your music to the right side where your media card is. Make sure your music doesnt have DRM like itunes...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

The easiest way would be a memory card reader, in something like x:/blackberry/music/

Digital Rights Managment.

For example. If you buy a song on iTunes, that song will only play on iPods. It wont work for any other MP3 player. There are all kinds of music stores like this.
If you have regular CD's or download music from free sites however, you wont have a problem because the music is most likely a MP3 format.

P.S. I dont know all the formats that the BB Pearl supports. Your better off with just MP3 files.

Unhappy Uplaoding Songs

I too am having trouble getting songs to load onto my pearl. Once I'm in the media manager and try to drag a song across one of 3 things happens:
1) I get an error message that the file size exceeds the max file limit
2) nothing happens at all
3) I get a message the file I'm trying to copy into is read only

How do I set up a music file on the microsd card that will accept the songs I want to put on it?
thanks

Did you get a micro SD card and set it up on the phone?

Once you "turn on the chip" on the phone, the folders are automatically
created [music, pictures, ringtones, video].

After that you simply plug in a USB cable from the PC to the phone.
Windows will automatically recognize the chip on the Pearl as a "drive" and
you open up the main folder on the chip.

You will then see one folder called "music."

The easiest and fastest way to transfer music from your PC to the Pearl is
to "copy" the file from the PC, click into your Pearl's "music" folder, then
press "paste" to put the file into the Pearl's music folder.

I would not bother trying to transfer music files on to the Pearl's memory.
It has file size limitations. So get a micro SD card, like I said in the other
thread.

And the above method is faster and easier than using Desktop Manager.

And above all else, instead of getting all excited, do a search. This subject
has been discussed in many, many threads. Don't expect people to repeat
themselves. I think that is why you are getting terse and limited responses
to your pleas for help. Your questions indicate you have not looked up
anything on BBF.

Now go out, buy a micro SD chip and you will be playing music in no time.

Did you "turn on" the micro SD chip on the phone? Sounds like maybe you did not. Follow the below.

Also, I would use Windows Explorer to transfer files, rather than DM. It is faster and easier to use.
If things are set up right, as soon as you connect a USB cable from the PC to the Pearl, Windows
should recognize the micro SD chip on the Pearl as a drive and open up the menu selection for you
to pick from. Choose to "open folder." See pic.

To set the Pearl up to use the MicroSD card:

<settings>

<advanced options>

<Media Card>

Turn <Media Card Support> to 'on'

Turn <Mass Storage Mode Support> to 'on'

Set <Auto Enable Mass Storage...> to 'yes'

click <escape> key [key to right of trackball] to get to <save> option

Scroll to 'yes' and click trackball to save the settings.

Sometimes files on your PC get designated "read only." If that is your problem:

In Windows Explorer highlight the file on your PC [do not open it].

While highlighted, right click with your mouse. You will see a menu item at the
bottom that says "properties."

Click properties with the left mouse button.

A window will pop up showing the file's properties. [see below pic].

One item will be a check box that says "read only"

If that box has a check mark that means it is read only. [see pic].

To get rid of it, simply uncheck the check mark by clicking the checkmark
in the box.

Then press "Apply" and it will delete the read only aspect of the file.

Default SD files

I've got the chip turned on and when I got to transfer files there are only 2 folders; ringtones & pictures. I took this chip out of another phone so is it possible something is missing? Can I just create a music folder?

When I am in the BB Media Manager it brings up a folder MyBlackberry/Device Memory. Is this the chip? or the phones internal memory? The memory size appears to be very small.

Thanks for all your help!!!! It takes forever to try to call Cingular and get help.

Does not sount good stick...on your pearl if you browse over to MEDIA you should see 4 icons - MUSIC / VIDEO / RINGTONES / PICTURES. When you select one of these (Say MUSIC for example) you should see a folder for Media Card and also for Preloaded Media. If not - your pearl is not reading the card yet.
