Man, I have been here way to long to go flipping out, If I was going to be banned it wouldn't be for yelling at someone becuase they post in a 3rd grade manner.

Arguments are good and like you said all in good banter. I actually added you to my messenger becuase I like the way you handle yourself here.

So does that mean if you're a member of Vongo, or some other legitimate Movie Download site, you shouldn't use Verizon Wireless while you're out on the road to download movies after a hard day of trekking - otherwise you may get flagged and disconnected ~ permanently.

That's something I'll have to look out for and remember when I'm out with the family and the kids want to watch something new!

hmmm.

Well that's unfortunate - I usually try to get some worthwhile info from lurking and reading. When it gets too difficult to translate and read, it makes me just want to skip to the next post. Probably unfortunate for me, as you probably have some good informative information to post, unfortunately - like low priced service, if you can't get the message because of bad signal (or poor grammar), the money (or in this case, message) is wasted. Hope that analogy made sense.

Don't hate me now.

That's something I'll have to look out for and remember when I'm out with the family and the kids want to watch something new!

hmmm.
So I decided to contact Verizon about the legitimate movie download sites, like Vongo. I was concerned because I not only have a Blackberry, which I don't think I'd ever reach 5GB, but I also have a Wireless Data Card that I use for my laptop when I'm on the road (which is daily).

Here was my letter:

Quote:
I subscribe to Vongo - a commercial site that allows me to download movies to the computer. Will downloading movies onto my laptop through my aircard violate the Terms of Service? Thanks! Tom

Here was there response:

Quote:
Dear Tom XXXX,

Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. I am eager to assist you with information regarding the ability to use your PC5750 Card to download movies to your computer.

Thank you for your proactivity in determining the ability to download movies to your computer with your device. Please be advised that doing so will be in direct violation of your terms and conditions with Verizon Wireless. Please see, below:

Data Plans and Features (such as NationalAccess, BroadbandAccess, GlobalAccess, and certain VZEmail services that do not include a specific monthly MB allowance or are not billed on a pay-as-you-go basis) may ONLY be used with wireless devices for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) intranet access (including access to corporate intranets, email, and individual productivity applications like customer relationship management, sales force, and field service automation). These Data Plans and Features MAY NOT be used for any other purpose. Examples of prohibited uses include, without limitation, the following: (i) continuous uploading, downloading, or streaming of audio or video programming or games; (ii) server devices or host computer applications, including, but not limited to, Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine to-machine connections or peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing; or (iii) as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections.

This means, by way of example only, that checking email, surfing the Internet, downloading legally acquired songs, and/or visiting corporate intranets is permitted, but downloading movies using P2P file-sharing services and/or redirecting television programming content for viewing on laptops is prohibited. A person engaged in prohibited uses continuously for one hour could typically use 100 to 200 MB, or, if engaged in prohibited uses for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, could use more than 5 GB in a month.

For individual use only and not for resale. We reserve the right to protect our network from harm, which may impact legitimate data flows. We reserve the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred, and to deny or terminate service, without notice, to anyone we believe is using one of these Data Plans or Features in any manner prohibited above or whose usage adversely impacts our network or service levels. Anyone using more than 5 GB per line in a given month is presumed to be using the service in a manner prohibited above, and we reserve the right to immediately terminate the service of any such person without notice. We also reserve the right to terminate service upon expiration of Customer Agreement term.

Verizon Wireless Plans, Rate and Coverage Areas, rates, agreement provisions, business practices, procedures and policies are subject to change as specified in the Customer Agreement.

This information, and more, is available for viewing at the website at BroadbandAccess Terms & Conditions.

I hope this information has proven helpful and informative. If you have further questions or concerns, please write to us again through Cell Phones, Mobile Phones and plans for Personal - Verizon Wireless. We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.

Sincerely,

XXXXX

haha...um...what about downloading pornographic materials excessively?

just messing...

i'm sure there are businesses where people would need to upload/download large files for their job. i wonder if they followed the guidelines and they only did legit business files, documents, etc, if verizon would terminate their service if they went over 5GB before the end of the billing month.

very good question but I am sure they would reinstate it if you showed them what you were doing.

yea, i wonder how you would go about doing that. what if your files are confidential and you're not allowed to disclose them (say they were for a new product line coming out soon or something)

haha, now i am just being difficult. i'm just interested in having someone test the limits and see what their (Verizon) reaction is

Dawg point taken but why call it Unlimited? Marketing possibly. Hiding the 5gig in the TOS where most people don't pay too much attention is just wrong. If they would say 5gig plan then fine I wouldn't care but the work unlimited is miss leading.

And care to explain why they cripple GPS?
