Unhappy Battery bad? (5 month old)

Please Login to Remove!

OK... I know there is a thread for battery tips and I know this subject is not necessarily tied to the Storm2 (9550 in this case). But I would like to receive opinions and replies from people having similar issues, or using same apps, or just plain experience with this phone.

The Problem:

For the last couple of weeks I noticed that my battery is draining ridiculously fast. Even when I was used to re-charging my Storm2 twice a day (at the most), right know its just a plain joke being forced to charge it at night, at noon, after work and at night again......

I am writing this at 4:45 pm and today I charged my phone at 3:00 pm just to test a little.
From 100% at 3pm, now it is on 79% in LESS than 2 hours!
I just let the phone sit on a table with the screen locked and I only checked the battery every half hour while I watched a movie.

The Facts:

>Good cellphone signal

>WiFi and BT OFF

>Regular Theme

>Besides the 5 regular core-apps running in the background I am currently running:

-Facebook
-SmartBeBattery

both icons show on the background app list

Now there are other apps that runs occasionally for update purpose and does not show its icons on the running list. These are:

-Buddy Guard
-Weather Bug (set for every 2 hours)
-Wallpaper Shifter (set for every 2 hours)

>Now, my habits with Li-Ion (or Li-Poly) batteries are to charge regulary on a daily basis (usually at nights when I am sleeping), and every couple of weeks or so I drain the battery to 5%.

Well to summarize, I use to get "great" (keeping in mind that its the storm2) battery life out of my phone, even though I listen to music over BT around 10 hours a day, browse over Opera occasionally, and send/receive IM and emails quite often and I had to charge only once a day.
It seems bad that after 2 hours of almost NO usage the phone is down 25%, so that will leave me with around 8 hours of battery with little use.

My full list of 3rd party apps (running or not) are:

- Wattpad
- 3d PBA Bowling 2
- Aces Traffic Pack
- Animated ScreenSaver (Off)
- Backcountry Ski Lite
- BackupAssistant (Off)
- BatteryWatch (never running in the background)
- BBXonix
- Blackjack Spin3
- BlackStar
- Blocked traffic
- BlueSlate Converter
- Bones in Motion
- Bubble Defense 2
- BuddyGuard (running, but for my test I turned off)
- CaptureIt
- Cliffed
- Dots
- Flight Path
- Easter Island Theme (not in use)
- Animated Sea Storm Theme (not in use)
- Animated Tree Storm theme (not in use)
- Free Cell
- Google Maps (4.0.2) (not running)
- GPSLogger
- GuitarHeroWT
- JShoppingList
- Ka-Glom
- Kindle
- Labyrinth Lite
- Level
- Lights Out
- Make a Mess
- MinureSaver (running only on phone calls)
- MyVerizon
- Navita Translator
- Need For Speed Shift
- Opera Mini
- PatternLock Lite
- Pipes
- Poynt
- Pub Fruity Spin3
- PuzzleMeet
- QuickPull Free
- Road Mania
- Scanner Radio
- Shazam
- Skype Mobile (not running)
- Slacker Radio (not running)
- SmartBeBattery (Running)
- speedtest
- V Cast Apps
- V Cast Song ID
- Wallpaper Shifter (Running)
- WeatherBug
- Whippoh
- YouTube
- Tiltris

Please Help

Pretty impressive list of apps there BUC.

Couple of approaches depending on what's comfortable or least painful to you.

1.) Dump all the third party apps and see what happens.

or

2.) Go buy a new battery and see if the results change. If it doesn't fix the problem, you have a spare.

Thanks for the input devnull

To buy a new battery is in my plans soon, but If is app-related or OS related than a new battery wont fix the fact that it will go bad fast too..

Some of my apps are paid so I would like to keep them, because when I go back to my country in a month I wont be able to buy them again (also I dont want to pay twice for the same apps, given that many BB apps are overpriced)

I appreciate your reply though I would like to see if somebody with a similar app list as mine have a normal battery life and maybe I can scratch out some of the apps for being the problem...

In my opinion, I don't think any app or combination of apps can cause a battery to go bad. However, I do think that some apps can use more resources than it should, thus causing memory or battery problems . One being facebook. Based on what I have read on these forums, I will never load that app on my phone.

If you have bought an app, you shouldn't have to buy it again just because you remove it from the phone.

Thanks for your reply.

Today it was better. I think due to the full discharge of yesterday.

I was probably getting bad readings. Thanks anyway

Try turning your GPS off, it is notorious for draining your battery. You would need to turn it back on before using any of your GPS based apps, like maps or BlackStar.

Having GPS location ON, does not drain the battery.
Using GPS only drains the battery because you are using it with a mapping application; its that application that drains the battery.

Thanks for replies, but if mods want they can close this thread.

I realized that the problem was a bad calibration. After I fully discharged the battery I started getting better life (or better reading). So problem solved

Thanks everyone for their input and at least this show how important is to drain it once in a while

Ps: also, I'm glad it was not app related. I love most of my apps.

I had battery draining issues and went back to Verizon and they gave me a new battery. Two weeks later, still had the same issue. They gave me a brand new phone. Customer service was spectacular - yeah, Verizon gave me great service, I was shocked.
