Default Recovering deleted Contacts?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a user on an 8700g, synching adresses wirelessly with BES 4.2 and Notes 7.0 . He reports that he recently synched his Notes Contacts with his BES, and 52 of his contacts were deleted. From the screen shot of the summary window he sent it appears that he deleted 52 entries from his Blackberry at some point, and then when Notes synched up with the BES those 52 entries were deleted from his names.nsf file. The only problem is that he denies deleting any contacts from his Blackberry, and needs the contacts back.

Questions:
1) Is there a way to recover deleted contacts after synching the Notes contacts with the BES and Blackberry contacts? Similar to the Trash folder for emails?

In a pinch I can use a hard back-up I had created the last time I worked on his Blackberry, but the backup is 6 months old. Wipe the handheld, restore the backup contacts to the handheld. Create a new names.nsf file in Notes, synch the BBerry to it, then open the original Names.nsf database and do a selective copy-paste of whatever missing contacts were in the back-up. but talk about a pain in the rear....

2) How did this happen and how can I prevent it from happening again? I'm searching the forum here and not finding anything related to contacts spontaneously disappearing from a handheld. My first thought was that he had gone in and selected a bunch of contacts and deleted them enmasse, but there doesn't seem to be a way to select and delete more than one contact at a time. He denies going in and deleting a bunch of contacts. Second thought was that his handheld memory was low - I've seen wierd stuff happen when someone downloaded too many ringtones, games, phots, etc and their handheld was low on RAM. Mostly old message disappearing, but possibly emails disappearing? My third thought was that he got busy cleaning out old contacts on his Blackberry and then regretted deleting some that he needed and is suffering from "selective amnesia" about having deleted them. (Kinda like how no one ever visits porn sites at work, but the viruses somehow just "jump" onto their PC's - sigh)

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was afraid of that. OK, guess it's the "restore from the 6 month old Backup" solution.

Thanks for the quick response.
