Default Memory Leak and .52

Please Login to Remove!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been running .52 for the last couple of days, and I can say by far, much better than .46.

One thing I have noticed is that I am still having a memeory leak. I started yesterday with 18MB, I just checked today, and i was at 7.5MB.

I did a battery pull and went back up to 17MB........I know this is part of having a "beta", but is anyone else having this with .52? I notced in a couple of other threads that most people werent having it, so maybe it is my programs that I have installed.........

Are there certain programs, more than others, that cause the leak?

If so, any ideas what I can do to rectify this issue?

Thank you so much for any feedback. It is greatly appreciated.

Travis

P.S. I did follow some of the posts out there on how to maximize memory, and it still didnt help.

I notice on first start of my bb I have 26mb free. After some time running browser, opera, messages left and right it goes down to 17-19mb free. But no less than that.

That happened on every release so far. However, I might be the only one to note a slight memory loss when upgrading to .52

I was on .44 before with 28MB free. Now its 26. Still that's more than enough for my bb to utilize.

Just a point about memory & applications, the more u use applications related to internet content, you'll always have memory running less as this applications does store cache, history & sometimes it saves contents.

For example Viigo, it connects to several rss locations that you define & downloads large amount of text & images which definitely uses memory (Depending on how much text & images of course).

A battery pull kind of resets some internal contents, logs & un-used files that have been downloaded during the browsing or running this applications.

Hope this helps

I've had a pretty steady 17 mb free since I upgraded, .52 is definatly way better than earlier releases

I have some memory leaks too, I have a lot of lg apps so even a battery pull I start at 14 but I never got below 9. I had the same thing even with official 4.2 tmo version. Viigo is a must have evil, I think it has a lot to do with leaks. , so does empower instaspell IMHO.

Sooner or later, everyone with .52 will have a memory leak.

Running fine since it first came out, to me it works faster everyday. Still keeping tabs on it though.

No problems here at all too. This OS and John's memory free'r thread were made for each other.
Is dot 60 out yet?

I've noticed a lot more free memory after installing this release, and no leak. 22mb free where before it was always around 7.

At this point.... Its obvious memory leaks are in every version of OS released by RIM.

But some of the leaks are more apparent with different users. I myself have not noticed a great decrease in usable memory. But others with the same device report going critical in 6+ hours...

With lots of apps loaded and a few running continuously (viigo, bbweather, weather bug direct, jivetalk), I also left purposely included the preloaded images (which had been left out of .52 as most of us downloaded it). I also depend heavily on voice dialing, so I left that in as well, and I still have 3 or 4 themes on the phone. So - when I first boot up, I have about 15MB free memory. Even after running like this for a few days, the lowest I've seen memory drop to is about 11MB and change.

I'm wondering how much of what I see when I web surf winds up cached in device memory (as opposed to my media card)?

In general, though, although I see something that looks like a memory lead (or just a lazy garbage collect routine?), it's not serious in my experience, and hasn't impacted system stability so far.

Think you hit the nail on the head with the internet cache. Ive narrowed the "leak" down to my heavy use of the opera browser.

I noticed a big difference when I deleted Viigo off my BB, even though I love the app. I used Freerange now and the leak has got much better. I also used MaxMem app to delete some of the stuff I didn't want (preloaded media/themes, etc.) I would delete the Voice Activated Dialing too but if you do that, you're not able to get into the Options>About to see the OS you are running, which is no big deal really, but I guess at the moment, I like to have the option to view that info...

You can still get the device info this way..

by holding down the ALT and then pressing the EACE keys (from the main screen).
