I've heard mp4 may work. I also heard early specs that curve supports h264(that apple hd standard) but I haven't been able to confirm that either.

Most of use the roxio software that came on the cd but I saw an open source bb player ...see if i can find a link

not sure about YouTube ones, but other video files I have I just convert with QuickTime Pro to 3gp format, then drag/drop them onto the media card when mounted

Default Video

I am running a 12" Powerbook G4, and have got pretty much anything I wanted to play. First off, I have found that if it plays on my iPod, then it plays on my curve. So, do you have an iPod Video? If so, then you can just drag and drop anything from iTunes directly into the videos folder of the curve drive when mounted (::edit:: as long as it isn't something you bought off of the iTunes music store).

For YouTube videos, this is what I would do (and probably will now that you mentioned it). I will assume you are already able to pull videos off of YouTube using your own program (I use a firefox extension and it seems to work really well). Use a program like Quicktime Pro, FFMPEGX (which is what i use) to convert the ripped YouTube video to mp4 format. Then just drag and drop! Other file formats may work, but I would just use what you know already works. If you use FFMPEGX, there is an actual preset for apple ipod...you can just use that, the screen aspect ratio is so close, I couldn't tell any difference. Good luck!

I have tried about a billion things to get video off of a DVD on to my curve and nothing works. I have used Handbrake to rip and conver in one step using its iPod setting as well as trying other custom settings and no dice. Some times the videos play but most of the time I get an error. When videos do play the audio is way out of sync. Not sure what to do about it. I have also tried using Visual Hubs iPod settings as well as several custom settings with the same results. Oh, and I even tried converting videos with quicktime pro to 3gp and mpg4 with no luck. Any ideas? I think my curve may just not play video right? Should I consider trading it for another one?

I've had no luck getting 3gp files to play on my Curve. How do I convert the 3gp files to another format so they'll play?

The roxio software is only visible in windows. If you have the the intel chip and have windows try switching and you'll see it. I don't think you can load a video off a mac but not sure.
