Default t-mobile: aim is data or sms? X_X

Please Login to Remove!

I have unlimited data but only 400 SMS messages. I've been using the AIM app that came with my new pearl... I thought it counted as data...... because when I dial #674# the only number that shows up is my text message amount, not instant messages.

When my parents get the bill, they're going to kill me if I'm charged for all those extra AIM msgs. I really did think it was data?? But with T-mobile I guess its not? gosh dangit t-mobile.

I believe that the AIM app that comes preloaded on a T-Mobile BB does in fact use text message (SMS).

However, if you download the standalone AIM app from AOL's site, that app uses your unlimited BB data plan on T-Mobile.

It sounds goofy, but just download the regular AIM app and stop using the preloaded one on your BB.

K so i've been doing some research, and apparently the app is like OZ or something. When I check my applications, AIM's description is like "Research In Motion" and "rim". I read that RIM is data, and not SMS. is the one I have RIM? I dont see OZ ANYWHERE and i'm really confused.

....and if it is SMS, how come it doesnt show up when I check to see how many SMS messages I have left? It simply shows me my text messages, and not my AIM ones.

Research in Motion(RIM) is the company that does created Blackberry devices. The preloaded AIM does indeed use your text messages. Well, it did as of 2007.

Yes, the preinstalled AIM app that you were using is OZ and does ride off SMS.

It's not going to show as a different section. Texts are text, whether it's used through OZ or normal.

Get the actual AIM app for your blackberry, it uses data.

So if texts are texts, doesn't that mean when I dial #674# to see how many SMS messages I have left, aim msgs would appear as number used, if it used SMS?

Haha maybe I'm just in denial about the huge bill I'm going to run up XP thank you all so much for being patient with me and my stupid self.

Welcome to the forums!

Your AIM messages would show on your SMS count.

Go to Options \ Advanced Options \ Applications.. scroll til you find the AIM application. Click on it for the details/properties of the application. If it says "Vendor: Research In Motion" then it's RIM's application and uses data, if it says the Vendor is OZ then it uses SMS.

Oz uses SMS text.

AIM and Yahoo and MSN use data.

Make your choice.
