Download the JL_CMDER at the bottom of John Clarks' signature, and wipe the device with that.

Then try to install again

That should work, hopefully!

When you run JL_CMDER it wipes everything off the phone. The 543 error means there is no OS on your phone. Try to reload the new update and it should work just make sure you don't unplug your phone until it says it complete. Then give it a few minutes to reboot your phone and it should work.

the USB is now messed up. it keeps failing. in the past, the hour glass at the end hasn't taken very long. with this new version, it takes FOR EVER. how long is it lasting for all of you?

AFTER THE OS LOAD HAS COMPLETED IT CAN TAKE UP TO 20 MINUTES WITH A SPINNING HOURGLASS. This is only for the first time. Subsequent reboots will be quick.

here's what happens.

the desktop software says the installation is complete.
hour glass lasted for about 5-10 minutes.
i pulled the batter (probably dumb)

now everything is F'ed

I ran the JL thing wiping it clean, now the USB won't connect...

Bottom line.

How long is the hour glass supposed to be up?

Yes, pulling the battery probably messed it up. I've posted this 3 times now. Up to 20 minutes of hourglass is normal after the OS load.

If you wiped with JL_Cmder then just plug the BB in and run Application Loader again. It will reload the OS.

What do you mean USB keeps malfunctioning? Just plug in the BB, run Desktop Manager and then Application Loader and reload the OS to the device.

When you hook the phone up it will look like its not connected but when you hit the app loader and then next it should find your phone.

the version listed in the first post can only be found from the top choice in the menu "8100 smartphone" but will work on any 8100/Pearl. If by chance you are not a customer of that release then delete the vendor.xml file (search computer), if it is a release from your carrier you can skip that and do right to installing/upgrading.

Took about 30-45 minutes, and worked like a charm. No problems whatsoever. Thanks!!

I have everything loaded and working the only problem I'm having is getting the other themes with the new .alx file to show on my phone. I've done everything I usually do copy and paste to the apploader folder and then when i turn my desktop manager back on and it app loader its not showing it. What could I be doing wrong?

The Blackberry.alx doesn't go in the apploader folder. The Blackberry.alx goes in the shared/loaderfiles/8100_4.2.....etc. folder.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.1.96_P2.3.0.78
