so I am considering doing the Rogers OS upgrade, but one quick question, I am one of these at&t customers who likes all the extra crap they send in their service books and so on. By upgrading to the Rogers OS, will I still receive these icons on my desktop (at&T music, at&t mall, etc...)
Thanks!

Done. Worked without a hitch. Seems a good bit faster, especially when accessing data off of the SD card.

I have the Rogers OS on my 8300 since 8:30 am this morning and have not notice any significant differ from the O2 version.
I am in Newport Beach, CA on a BES and T-Mobile. The thumb nail pictures loads faster as someone said earlier but nothing else.
I don't have the T-Zones Icon but its not a big deal for me, since I have the BB browser running though the BES.
I deleted all my CICAL service books and I have the calender reminder working.
If I notice anything, I will report.

i found this in the platform alx file
</library>
<library id="net.rim.platform.lang.he">
<name>Hebrew Language Support</name>
<fileset Java="1.0">
<files>
net_rim_platform_im_resource__he.cod
net_rim_platform_im_resource__he_US.cod
net_rim_platform_im_resource__he_IL.cod
net_rim_platform_resource__he.cod
net_rim_platformapps_resource__he.cod
</files>
</fileset>
<directory SystemSize="normal">Java</directory>
Where do i get those files from? i cannot find them anywhere. there is also a reference in the Blackberry alx file to
net_rim_vad_resource__he.cod
which also isnt there!
now i created a hebrew alx file with the line net_rim_font_semitic.cod to allow that my semitic file does not get erased during the upgrade, but i want those other files....Maybe i can type in hebrew? who knows
has anyone ever seen a net_rim_font file for hebrew?

open BlackBerry.alx
go to Edit / Find - and look for "Theme filesets". This will bring you to the theme section of the file.
scroll down just a bit and find your carrier
example: for me I look for "AT&T US filesets", It will look like this for me:
Code:
<!-- AT&T US filesets -->
<fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800|8300" _vendorID="102"> <files>
net_rim_theme_102a_icon_320x240_b.cod
</files>
</fileset>
Just go below the net_rim_theme file and add in all the full names of the themes you wish to add such as I will add: net_rim_theme_105_zen_320x240_b.cod - so it now looks like this:
Code:
<!-- AT&T US filesets -->
<fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800|8300" _vendorID="102"> <files>
net_rim_theme_102a_icon_320x240_b.cod
net_rim_theme_105_zen_320x240_b.cod
</files>
</fileset>
save the file, open DM, connect your BB and click on application loader, it will now load up all your themes.
No worries about having to learn what the different vendorID's are. I just did it with a Verizon Wireless theme (105) that was taken from another OS (8830).
|
I tried this method with my ATT Curve. The theme for O2 is now listed among my themes but it doesn't load.
When I went to try the other method of removing the Vendor ID from the o2 theme, it wouldn't let me reload the blackberry.alx file because it saw it was the same version.
If nothing else I'd like to redit and restore to what it was but if it won't let me reload the blackberry.alx, I don't know how to accomplish that.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Replace your .alx file with the one attached in the very first post. Moderator John Clark was nice enough to modify the .alx file and attach it for everyone.

I just got up and running with the new OS. Much faster through apps and thumb loads in media, and I did get a meeting notification for the first time!
However, I now have duplicate calendar entries. I know there is a thread started on this already, I hope they have a solution now.

I've done that and it worked perfectly, thanks. I guess what I'd like to know is what make the blackberry.alx file seen by DM as newer, therefore it will load it.
For instance, if I want to replace this modified .alx file with the original, how would I do that? Currently, if I attempt it, it's not seen as an "update" and therefore won't load.
Thanks.

When you modify it it sees more .cod's to load, thus the "update." If you replace it with your old one it will remove the .cod's during the later part of the application loader. It will show you the modules that are not recognized and are going to be removed.

John, I guess what I'm not communicating clearly is that, using DM, it doesn't see the original blackberry.alx as newer and therefore doesn't offer to load it.
You're telling me what happens when I do. I'm asking how I'd do it. Thanks.
