Default Holsters for the 8220

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone using a good holster for the 8220 that supports "In Holster" mode?

Mine came without any case whatsoever, and I am looking for something that works. The aftermarket case that I bought does not see to do anything for "In Holster".

Thanks!

I tried just sliding my g/f's 8220 into my curve case. Didn't do anything.

Not sure if that means anything or not.

First it comes with a different USB port, now there is NO holster with it.

Sheesh.

Nice new avatar, by the way.

Gave up on that other old guy. Throws too many INTs in critical situations (heresy, I know, but we're 3-3).

I've been using my Pearl/81xx belt holster... I don't recall if it trips the "in holster" or not..

I'll try and play later... its going to be a busy day.. too many meetings :(

The old Pearl holsters don't have the magnet in the right place. It is off center on the 8220, so none of the original cases work.

I bought a holster from the local T-Mobile store and it does not seem to trigger "in holster" mode at all. I'm planning on returning it today and talking to the guy there.

They are selling Samsung T739 cases which do not trigger the in holster, as you observed. This little issue is really bugging me.

That (hopefully) is the "official" one that works. A few vendors have it online; I ordered a couple and will report back

The box on my device says it's for the 8220, but when I took it back one of the guys in the store says that it's not "officially" for the phone. He admitted that it had no magnet. I wish the guy on Monday had told me that. They took it back, so I'll have to wait a while with no holster until I can find something.

The ShopBlackBerry site has one for $30 that says that it works with holster mode. It doesn't come out until 10/29, though. I guess I can wait if that's the only option.

Just tested the holster that I got from T-Mobile over the phone. It fits the 8220 perfectly, but doesn't seem to put it in to "holster" mode. Where on the 8220 is the switch/magnet for holster mode?

I don't think that the ones that currently come from T-Mobile will work. There's nothing on the phone itself. The phone has a magnet or sensor or something built-in. The case has to have a magnet in the right place so that when the phone's in the case, the magnet pulls on the sensor and the phone knows it's in the holster.

There is a magnetic switch in the phone. The magnet, properly places in the case, activates the switch and puts the phone in In Holster mode. Been tha way since the very first BlackBerry.

It's easy enough to find the location of the magnetic switch on the 820. Take an existing case. Use the magnet in the case (the part that flips over to keep the phone secure) and move it over the external display of the 8220. You'll see that the display shuts off when the magnet is placed over the lower left hand corner of the external display.

Move the magnet around and the external display will come back up.

Hopefully the official 8220 case will have the magnet in the right place.

Yeah, that's basically what I was trying to say. You can't flip a switch in the phone itself to turn on holster mode. It's always ready.

The description on the BlackBerry site says:

Quote:
Plus, a magnetic proximity sensor determines if your BlackBerry smartphone is in its case and shuts off the screen to conserve battery life, while giving you the option to choose unique notification settings for incoming calls and other functions.
All of the resellers seem to have copied that directly, so I assume that the official case will be able to trigger holster mode.

Unfortunately, some reputable sellers are marketing the 8100 cases - which fit properly - as 8220 compliant, but the magnet doesn't line up properly.

The 8220 case (OEM) with the BlackBerry logo on the front flap works perfectly. Shopblackberry is out of stock, but BlackBerryDen has them in stock. In Holster mode works perfectly.

I just got mine from WirelessGround today (took 4 business days to get here with the free shipping) and it works with holster mode just fine.

It has the BlackBerry logo on the front.
