New Dedicated Blackberry Magazine Coming
Please Login to Remove!
Morning All,
Just wanted to let members here know that we are in the process of putting together a dedicated Blackberry users magazine and wanted to ask for your input. We are publishing both a hard copy edition as well as a digital edition and it will start off at 80 pages plus cover, high quality stock and perfect bound cover. Questions are:
1. Would you subscribe to a dedicated BB magazine.
2. What sort of content would you like to see in it.
Thanks for your feedback and if there are any members of the forum here that would be interested in being part of the editorial team then please drop me an email to:
Many thanks and look forward to your feedback.
Regards,
Ned

Sorry, I probably wouldn't subscribe. There is so much information available on this forum and other sites that bring breaking news to light so much faster than a printed source could achieve. By the time it's printed and delivered, it's probably already been talked about for weeks on forums and other online sources. There are thousands of articles online with user stories, troubleshooting, tips and tricks and other things that would make a printed magazine redundant. An online edition would be quicker to react and report, but I get all I need now from blackberrynews.com, BBF and other sources.

I would DeFiNiYeLy subscribe. But it has to be current as far as content. Ever see "Smartphone Magazine"? By the time an issue comes out it's several months behind. They're giving tips for Windows Mobile 5 on the Moto Q9 when most folks are running WM 6 and upgrading to 6.1! Or they review the HP 210 and it's already a dinosaur. No mention of the HP 910 which has been shipping for a month. When things change so fast in the mobile world it's tough to keep a magazine current. That's the challenge: to keep it relevant.
I'd like to see in-depth reviews of models and software, productivity tips, and a heavy dose of admin issues for BES folks. Plus coverage of the conventions and trade shows that feature not only Blackberrys but their competition.

Sure, I will sign up for the 3-month trial subscription. Need content on how to mod your BB for multiple uses, i.e., stun gun; sonic screwdriver; tricorder; and other cool stuff. Additionally, you will have to use the women of Victoria Secrets to model all your devices and modifications, okay.

Depends. If it's aimed at total newbies, then no. If it was aimed at BES administrators only, no. If it's nothing but ads, no.
If it provides useful tips (stuff I haven't seen elsewhere), in-depth reviews, exclusives... then I'd give it a try.
Problem is, between BBF and the various blogs (like Crackberry and BerryReview), I cannot see how a magazine would ever be timely enough.
I think about the technology magazines I read. With something like PC Magazine, I read it because (a) I get it free, (b) it's good to read when I'm in places where I'm not at the computer (on a train, on a plane, in the ummm... well... know you), (c) they have sufficient clout that they do get exclusives and advanced information quite often.
If it's a regurgitation of what's out there, then I wouldn't pay for it. Not that it wouldn't have value for some. But consider the audience: people who likely already know how to seek out forums and blogs.

Squeff,
There is an old saying which goes "You arent going to please everyone all of the time" and we will just have to come up with a content formula that keeps everyone happy, or as happy as we can make them
Some people will like the magazine and will subscribe, others wont, so we just have to do the best we can.

It would probably sell more to folks who don't know about sites like this one and Crackberry. People who when things go wrong have no alternative but to refer to a source they are familiar with or back to the carrier. I found this forum the first week I had my BB but I also search for everything on the net.

I don't think I would subscribe. Paper magazines are ancient technology as far as I am concerned. Not sure you could do much better than this site.
Best of luck though!~

I might.
I would like to see reviews of different applications available for the Blackberrys.
Case studies perhaps?

You asked. I gave feedback and what would make it worthwhile to me. I would love to see a BB magazine, but I would not pay for it if it was just a rehash of last month's news. I'm sure some would.
Why did you ask for feedback if you didn't really want it?
