i don't even know why people insist on changing the trackball color anyway. this sounds like unnecessary, incredibly risky blackberry surgery. anyway, how does using clear tape to accomplish this task sound like a good idea at all? my recommendation---get rid of it, and forget you ever tried it

either use permanent marker, like a sharpie, on the tape, or you could always color the ball itself.

I've tried a sharpie before and it faded pretty quickly. After a while I thought the tape had bunched up since the color wasn't apparent, but it was still there. Not sure if it was the heat or maybe it was so faint that the ball got dirty and it no longer showed.
Oh, make sure you put a layer of tape on top of the colored tape just for the extra protection.

the best thing to do is to use a piece of colored post it notes! i tried the tape thing and it stayed wet or faded, the post in note has been in there for months and never faded or had a problem with it. you just cut a small piece of whatever color and stick it over the led light.
I don't even know why people insist on making comments about why people need to change the color ball and how dumb it is.. we didnt ask YOU to take apart your bb, if you dont want to then dont.. if we DO thats our problem if we f*** it up..

it's people who try this crap that end up posting back on these threads about how they just bricked their berry and screwed everything up. we'll see you in about a week, saara.

Eh, to each, his own I say. All modifications are at your own risk and if someone wants to try, tread cautiously, but tread away.

Great idea. Are you talking the paper notes or the tape flags? Well I guess both would work.

i hear what you guys are saing about modifications to your bb, but this particular thing is so simple all your doing is covering the light ... i debated about it for bit and once i did it realized how easy it was.. now if i had to take my entire bb apart or try to change the casing, then i would agree with you shouldnt and peopel will post later that they messed up their bb's

Yea,
if you really wanted a color trackball that bad,
get an 8100,
But it is your BB,
do what ever the hell you want with it.

I just did this. I couldn't find a blue post-it so I just used a dark teal sharpie to color a piece of paper and put it over the light. It was really simple, and now the trackball is a light teal/blue which matches the ocean in my wallpaper. It looks pretty neat and was easy to do without 'harming' the phone. Just use tweezers to pop the silver ring out and that's it.

But,
if you are gonna use a marker, and tape or something like that,
make sure its dry before you put it on .
