I just recovered my laptop from a virus that prevented my laptop from going on the internet properly, though it did work and was connected still, also messed up my files and stuff...But i was just wondering if virus' can infect the storm ? Like if i plugged my phone into the laptop while it was infected, or if i downloaded something with a virus on the storm ? Would anything happen ? Anyways to fix/prevent if it did ? Just curious really.

To date there have been no viruses for the BlackBerry operating system. Windows viruses do not travel to it, since it doesn't run any sort of Windows operating system.

The worst thing that I think could happen - but has never been reported - is that if your BB was connected when the virus was running, it might (emphasize might) remove data on a connected USB drive. But it will not infect the Storm, or any other BlackBerry.

Because i have gotten virus' on nokia running symbian i think in the past.

A company call SMobile sells an anti-virus program for the BB. I have used it successfully for a couple of years. While there have been no reported viruses on the BB, as has become apparent to the Mac users of this world, Unix based OS' are not immune as they would like you to believe. I would rather spend a few bucks a year for protection rather than get screwed for beingg arrogant. Just one guy;s opinion. 73

Depends. The ability to write heuristic programs has been around for a a long time. Virtually every PC software vendor incorporates this in their products. I have had extensive discussion with the folks at SMobile and they are very sharp. I have not asked this specific question, but as I will have to contact them to move the software to my Storm tomorrow, I will ask the question and report the answer back to this forum.

That said, even the best heuristic softwar ecan be spoofed, but, by and large, virus authors tend to focus on the low hanging fruit (i.e. PC's). They are so vulnerable that why bother with pda's. This will change at some point, but hopefully by that time there will be AV software that is up to the task.
