Question 8700r not able to upgrade to the latest OS

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Folks,

I need help, i have upgraded the OS on my 8700r before, I am currently on version v4.2.1.114 and I tried installing the latest version 4.5.... as well as other versions of 4.5 without any luck.

It backups everything and loads the new OS, as soon as it tries to restore my data after along half way through I see the hour glass screen disappears and I see white screen with Blackberry written on it and I get an error message saying "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE DEVICE, you device might be locked please unlock and try again" I am using DM 4.6. I have given this several attempts without any luck, I am forced to take out my SIM and Battery to restore it back to v4.2....

Please if anyone can help me and tell me what am I doing wrong here.

Thanks in advance.

I am in the same position as you, unable to go from 4.2 to 4.5 on my 8700c. There is a subset of us that could not do the upgrade for some reason. I posted my problem a while back but without resolution.

Stay with 4.2,

Scott

4.5 has many advantages over 4.2, including a much improved browser.

I recommend doing a complete Backup and then following these steps:

How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ
What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

After you've installed OS 4.5 onto your PC. Make sure your BB is not connected via a USB hub.

What provider do you have? OS 4.5 is not support by all provider yet.

Which has nothing to do with the ability to load the new OS.

Make sure that in Windows Device manager>USB Root hub>Power management following settings Allow the computer to shutdown device to turn off this device to save power is unchecked on each Root hub.

The upgrade process takes a long time and requires adequate USB power to the BB at all times. Power Management can cause a lot of USB problems.

Hi Scott,

If you follow FAdmins steps you should be able to upgrade the OS on your BB, the problem was in the Device Manager, once I changed those settings I was able to upgrade.

Give it a try.

Thanks,
Vibhu

Thanks Vibhu, unfortunately this particular fix did not resolve my problem. I still get the black display with the red blinking light during the reconnect/reboot phase in the upgrade process.
