I have BIS set up with two email accounts as well as the blackberry one. It seems that the BB one gets emails almost immediately while the other two emails i have to wait like 15 min to get. why is this? and is there a way to do a send/recieve like in outlook so i can get the emails right away?

Yahoo and Gmail will be send almost realtime. For your outlook BIS will poll the server ever 15 minutes. The only way to get it sooner is to convert to BES. This is normal for BIS.

I see the polling as anywhere from 3 to 15 min, depending on when the e-mail is grabbed. Anyway to speed up the BIS or make it poll more frequently?

I'm afraid not that I know of. The 3min poll is when it has found a change. As soon as there's nothing new it reverts to 15mins.

The glimmer of hope is that at some stage RIM re-introduce IMAP and IDLE which would allow instantaneous delivery for IMAP accts that support IDLE and concurrent connections.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I get amused because everytime they upgrade the BIS, someone will come on and say his or her mail is coming in faster when we know that is NOT the fact

I think part of the confusion is the vague wording from RIM. BIS 2.4 makes it sound like 2-way sync works on standard email accounts. I just wish they would offer the IMAP IDLE feature again.

Yeah I know what you mean. It is really up to their engineers putting the proper scripts in place to activate IDLE for those whose mail servers fully support it (IDLE CAPABILITY and concurrent connections).

Another possibility would be to have an "advanced mode" that you can elect to use IDLE from BIS options. However, I assume they don't want to do this as some users would just check it and wonder why their mail took hours to be delivered if their server didn't support IDLE fully.

Even with unknowing users selecting this option in the advanced mode, it would be an easy fix for the carrier's helpdesk when they troubleshoot. I vote for the advanced mode option.

Thanks - well I've already e-mailed BlackBerry to make this suggestion. If you would like to do the same their e-mail address is [email address]. However, I don't know how much notice they take!!

From my experience that wording also has some pretty confused techs at t-mo bb support. And as a new cu that's the first place people are likely to turn, so the erroneous perceptions of how things actually work tend to be unwittingly propagated, leading to even further confusion.

That would be nice, indeed
