It works great on Verizon also. A few quirks, but overall a great leap forward.

Let me understand this correctly...

You're tethering your Verizon 8703e via Paralells Widows?

Or

You're tethering your Verizon 8703e via Pocket Mac OS X?

What are the "quirks"?

This is a major deal breaker that I need to work out if I'm going to make the switch to Macs. WWAN internet is more important than price points or a stable OS (for my needs).

Just read that Verizon started expanding its EVDO network today which is great for its customers because it speeds up EVDO. Now all they need is a BB with international capabilities. Sorry...Off topic.

Default Tethering Mac to BB 8703e

Hopefully a solution is found soon. I'm trying to tether a BB 8703e with my Mac Powerbook G4 and no luck - event tried pocketmac, pulse.., Is it gonna take Apple to release the iPhone inorder to solve the problem that all of us Mac users are having in tethering to the web?

Please send updates asap if anyone finds a solution.

I'm not sure which tree has to be shaken to get a solution that doesn't require a proxy and an extra $100 to get it to work.

Default Seems like I'm close

Setup: PowerBook G4, 10.4.8, BlackBerry 8700c, and Cingular

I've been using a Motorola V3 RAZR for over a year. Using a set of modem scripts from Ross Barkman (www dot taniwha dot org dot uk/gprs dot html), I was able to use the RAZR as a Bluetooth modem on Cingular's network. I used the free plan -- it was slow, but you used only minutes. Needing only a few minutes a week, I don't need to spend $70 a month on a data plan.

That same site has three scripts for BlackBerry. In my case for all three I get a message saying "It is possible your BlackBerry is an older model that does not built-in modem capability".

I thought I'd post this as a tool for technical types to follow up on. Or, if someone has used these scripts and gotten them to work, please let me know how you did it.

So when you hook the 8703e up using Parallels and Windows XP, obviously you are able to get internet through XP, but does that enable you to browse the web and stuff directly through OS X as well? Like does Parallels setup some kind of bridge to OS X?

Any updates or new solutions on tethering the 8703 to OSX? I'm not a Parallels or Bootcamp user since I'm still on a G5.

For G3, G4 and G5 users, look into Microsoft's Virtual PC for a VM instance of Windows XP. Rumors are that it will someday be free.

Can anyone answer my question about Parallels + the 8703e? I'd like to know if once you connect to the internet through Parrallels/Windows XP the connection is available to you in OS X?

I'd rather be surfing the web in OS X than in XP.

i would not recommend vpc. i tried running it on my powerbook and must say that its too slow and creates a big lag time when applications are running.

Default Using parallels....

To bridge the Mac thru XP, you need to set the VM in parallels to "host only" before you start Windoze.

After you connect with VZAccess in XP, open Mac System Prefs, select "Network", then open the (I forget the exact term)Parallels-GUEST configuration. Once this is open, refresh the IP and you should see a different set of numbers. You are connected through Parallels!

You may want to make another VM that uses default setting so you can connect the other way, from Parallels thru the Mac OS for the times you have a home/work/dedicated connection.

Good Luck!!
