Lightbulb Guide: How to get OS 5 ringtones on OS 6

Please Login to Remove!

Here is a guide I compiled to allow you to get the OS 5 ringtones on OS 6, whether it was a 9700, a 9780, or a 9800, the tricks works for all.

I personally think the OS 5 ringtones are much better.

1. Download and install BBSAK 1.9.1

2.Download the OS5 Ringtones file

3. Run BBSAK, then go to MODIFY CODs, then to INSTALL COD(s)

4. Browse to the location of the ringtone file you just downloaded, and select it, then wait for a few moments until it is copied to the phone.

The ringtone file will now be copied to your phone and you will have access to OS5 ringtones.

It's even easier than that...
Go to the URL below using your BlackBerry browser:

OS5 Ringtones

Of course the "guide" you posted above has been around a while, and works. Just sorta out of date.

Thank you Matrix Leader, did as suggested and I have access to the old ringtones. By the way is there any way to set different sound notifications for different contacts for BB messages ?
Is Du BB service better than Etisalat ?

No I don't know of any way to set different sound alerts for different BBM contacts but that would be nice.

DU is not better than Etisalat, nor is Etisalat better than DU.

Each one of them has their disadvanteges and positives.

Initially, when DU emerged as the second Telecom company in the UAE, it was crap, the prices were very cheap, but you wouldn't get coverage anywhere so it defeated the point.

But now, afer years, their internet service are better and cheaper, and their connection has improved so much, and in fact, in some areas, you don't even get ETISALAT coverage anymore but you get DU coverage, so they have done a great job especially getting coverage to the cnew communities in Dubai such as the one I live in.

But the main reason I went the DU way rather than ETISALAT is the price.

ETISALAT BlackBerry unlimited bandwidth usage (national, not roaming) = $51.3 USD

DU BlackBerry unlimited bandwidth usage (national, not roaming) = $36.7 USD

So, in the long run, DU is much cheaper, you save alot for the same service.

Default DU and Etisalat ?

The reason I asked which one was better was that my wife has Etisalat and my son has Du. I have Orange (PL) with international roaming and when I send a BBM to both of them, my son receives it instantly and my wife receives it after 6-7 minutes. Could this be a carrier problem or a handset problem ?

Does that delay happen each time?

Hmm, strange, tell me where you live and I can tell you whether their area is more suited for DU or Etisalat, as some of the newer areas like the Green Community and Emirates Living are all optimized for DU, in that case for example, if the connection is really crappy on the ETISALAT BB, then your son who has DU would get the message instantly.

DU is dominating these days. I have abandoned ETISALAT long back after discovering that I am paying an arm and a leg for nothing.

PS: Both their customer service suck, so you have to deal with any problems yourself or through the help of forums

It's probably Etisalat's delay to decrypt, read, approve and then send the message on to your wife.

But really... I'd wonder if either your son or wife or both are on a WiFi connection, rather than the mobile network.

And, there have been BBMessenger delays over the past week, as well, not just in the middle east.

Very wise words, ETISALAT has extra monitoring / encryption methods.

Like the internet on DU is much faster when downloading or browsing as Etisalat uses a very complex proxy server through all their connections for filtering and banning almost anything out there on the web! Heck, even facebook was banned for a while by ETISALAT.

So maybe that would explain the BB issue.

I installed the OS5 ringtones but when I edit any profile I don't see the list of old ring tones. Where are they stored?

Thank you so much! I'm so thrilled to have my old "lightspeed" back! The "remix" sucked. This is awesome.

Thumbs down Re: Guide: How to get OS 5 ringtones on OS 6

Didn't work

Opening the following link
net_rim_bb_medialoader_ringtones_480x360_03_b.jad

Which actually seems to be a program, rather than a web browser link.

Link doesn't open in BB Browser.

Tried to run it as a program and got an error

"907 Invalid COD"
"File Not Found"

Thoughts?
