I've been reading threads and have seen implications that I cannot access pictures in 9700 device memory as a removable device. (Always get "please insert disk". I finally figured out how to xfer to my PC using bluetooth but that seems rather burdensome. Is there any source that tells for sure what does and does not work re: transferring pictures with Device Memory only (no media card)?

the onboard memory can not be used.

You can transfer files to it and i think from it using Bluetooth only.

The confusion may be that with the older versions of Desktop Manager that had available the media manager plug in, you could access the main memory on the device via the plug in. But you could not turn on mass storage mode for the main memory like you can for the media card and see the device memory as a removable drive.

Now with the new desktop manager, the media manager plug in and the capability it provided is gone. Perhaps the older version 5 desktop manager is still available, I don't know. Worth checking if it is important to you, but be aware the media manager was extremely buggy for many people.

Ya, use a media card. I can't understand what's so important about being able to use device memory, when you have full unfettered access to the internal media card. You can simply put the pictures on the media card and call it a day.
