This is the 2nd time that i have plugged a 9700 into my mac to do a backup, dm tells me that a software update is available, it starts, then tells me the software update could not be completed and i then get a reload software 507 error... seeing as i have a mac i cannot seem to get the software back up and running, any thoughts.

Download a trial of Sun Virtual Box and find a copy of any version of Windows, be it 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7. Install Virtual Box, then make a VM of Windows and go about recovering from the 507.

I used it, IIRC, when it was first released for the Mac (it's multi-platform) and it was easy enough. All the virtual machine software is basically the same at the most basic level. It's really just installing it (Sun Virtual Box, VMWare Fusion, Parallels Desktop), then doing a File > New (or similar) and walking through a wizard. You can download a trial of Windows 7, totally legal BTW, and install without an activation key.
