Thanks to the OP for getting me down the right path. There are so many suggested passwords/usernames out there...it is confusing.
I found the above works..ONLY IF YOU HAVE ATT UPGRADE YOUR BB SERVICE FOR TETHERING. I put the settings in, but didn't work...until I called ATT C/S and upgraded..then it was a go.
Also, I called C/S and asked for their set up. So this also works too:
1. No need for using phone number for account name, nor using last six digits for password. You can, i did, but not necessary.
2.Telephone number (screen 1 above) should be *99***2# , but *99***1# works also.
3. Sierra works, but ATT recommends to chose (second screen shot):
Vendor: Research in Motion
Model: Blackberry IP Modem (GSM)
4. CID should be 2. But I could only get 1 to stick. 1 works fine.
This is for using Bold 9700 with Mac OS Snow Leopard and ATT via USB. Using BB Enterprise ($45) plus Tethering (another $15). It should work with any BB. Also works for BB personal ($30) plus Tethering (another $30). Yep, they both equal $60.
But you can add/drop tethering on a prorated monthly basis for either. NO COMMITMENT. Gives you 5Gb per month. Works great for occasional usage.
From ATT directly:
