Default Mac DM killed my Storm

Please Login to Remove!

Help!

I was trying to download some software updates for my BB Storm (9350) when the download said it failed. When I checked my BB, the device was wiped of everything, including the OS. I've managed to get the OS back, but it's still missing a lot, like the phone function (though I can call out to those in my contacts list, and they can call me) and my notes/memos/BB messenger/BrickBreaker and other such basic BB applications.

How do I get them back? How do I get it to work? And who do I yell at for the stupidity that I am now going through (OK, I don't expect a response to that)?

What updates were you trying to install?

What is "missing'?

What error code, if any, did you get?

What troubleshooting steps have you taken thus far?

Have you tried a battery pull and resent service books?

As for the last question about who to yell at, my advice is always this: If the device is working as you want and need it to work, it, therefore, is not broken and doesn't require fixing.

After you get your phone back to the way you like it, I suggest you check Missing Sync by MarkSpace, it should work for you better than the Mac DM.

I disagree. DM is much, much, much better than MissingSync or PocketMac ever was!

DubDub: The only error message I got on my DM was a notice that the download could not finish and to check the device. The error on the device was a 50(7 or 8, can't remember) and said Software application needed (something similar). I turned off teh device, battery pulled it, and turned it back on. I got the same error.

I've since re-uploaded the OS, but I am missing the phone icon in the menu, as well as my notes and memos apps (tried to upload those, got an error and was told to "check knowledge base KB19454.....once I can find it, I will have a better idea of what I am looking at). Also missing BrickBreaker - I really would like that one back.

Otherwise, I've spent the last 3 hours trying to get my phone back to normal. I don't know that it will ever be properly like the factory model again, but we'll see.

Caledan: I will go back to PocketMac after this. This is bollocks.

OK, have most of the stuff I had before back. Still missing the phone icon, but I can just hit the green button to make a call.

That said, I have a feeling I wasn't supposed to be able to do this through a simple software update. Nothing was pirated or cracked or anything like that. It was all legit software on my phone, with BlackBerry recommending the updates. And it killed my phone.

Needless to say, I'm really bothered by this. My phone company does not support Mac users, and you have to pay BB for the privilege of helping you fix your phone that was borked by their system in the first place.

I would love to know if anyone else has had this issue with the storm and the new DM. PLease tell me I am not alone.

Please look in the Mac Users section of the Forum.

Try a battery pull. With the device on, remove the battery for a minute or so. Then reinsert and let the device reboot.

Once back up, if the icon isn't there. look and see if it might have been hidden or in another folder.

BTW, I think your BB model number is 9530? I do not recall ever seeing a 9350.

I agree as well. DM works perfect for me. It's not perfect yet but the best solution by far is DM from RIM.

Yep. Something strange going on here as the Mac Desktop Manager works fine.

I actually had this exact same issue happen this morning. How were you able to load the OS onto the phone via your Mac?

Don't panic. That error, 507, simply means the device software, aka the OS, is not installed.

I wasn't aware you can install/upgrade the OS with a Mac, but maybe you can with desktop manager. If so, I would try again.

Also, locate the subforum for your series blackberry and then the stickied post on the latest OS for your model. There you will find the tools for downloading the latest version of the device software for your model, and installing it on your blackberry. You can do that, or get the latest version from your carrier, if you want. I believe the caveat is you must either boot up your Mac as a PC (if you have that capability) or do this on a PC.

Either way, your device is fine, in all likelihood. You just need to install the device software.
