Default Calling All Experts - Contact Names Not Shown when receiving calls or sms

Please Login to Remove!

Calling All Experts!

Guys,

I have been using a T-Mobile BB 9700 for the past 2 months in KSA (STC). Since then I have been trying to sort out this issue of caller ID, where if the numbers are saved with international dialing code (+9966551893333) are not displayed when receiving calls and vice versa for SMS.

Every time I visit a forum or talk to an expert I have been given different solutions and none of them seem to work so far. The possible solutions tried out were

- Fix Smart Dialing option (It has been changed to Saudi Arabia (+966) but msg appears that smart dialing not available in your region)

- Encryption Settings (Have been turned On and Off with multiple battery resets)

- Finally someone mentioned that a new OS update is available i.e. (5.0.0.442) which I downloaded and updated the device. Nothing changed except the SMS are only showing names for contacts saved with International dialing code.

Help!!!

Thanks Sanders

As I mentioned earlier that the smart dialing is set as +966 (For Saudi Arabia) but it still doesn't work.

RE removing International dialing code, it is not possible as I have 900+ contacts on my phone and I use my it very often while roaming.

Any other suggestions?

Probably the number which calling you is linked to more than 1 contact name in your contact list... therefore bb confuse which name to display

If you screw up the number of digits in your national phone number this will also happen.

Try this:
a) Have your contact nos saved exactly as they appear in smses with the + and country code (can add spaces or dashes for improving readability no problem).
b) Have another phone B and save its number as in a) above.
Set your Smart Dialing as follows:
c) Keep your Country Code setting
d) Clear Your area code
e) Reduce the National Number Length by one, save the settings and have phone B call your mobile no.
f) If the saved name from b) above doesn't show reduce again the National Number Length by one, save the settings and have phone B call your mobile no again.
g) If National Number Length reaches 0 start doing the opposite - adding one and repeat.
Remember to:
i. stop when the saved name for phone B shows.
ii. NOT to answer the calls from phone B either.
You should win before your national number Length is 0 or before its equal to the length of phone B's no.
I hope this solves your problem. I think this is what others are saying is the cause of your problems.

I started having a similar issue as soon as I bought my 9700. As others have said, it may be related to having more than one contact entry for the same number, such as duplicates with slight name or company variations, or the manner in which the contact numbers were saved. This did not pose a problem on my 8900 or other previous BlackBerry devices. Also, I sync my Touch Pro2 and Nexus One with that Outlook list now...neither has an issue. I have just under a thousand contacts saved and refuse to go through all of them to make changes. I find it easier to change phones.

I had to remove all dashes, spaces, and periods in my contacts phone number in order to get their name to appear on text messages and caller IDs.

Well - that shouldn't be. It was an issue on older f/w versions, but was resolved in the past several versions.

Absolutely NOT. It's not at all an issue with the contact numbers - but an older f/w issue - which has been resolved months ago. You could have fixed it with a workaround on the OS's that had the issue, by adding the + sign in front of the numbers and removing the spaces between, but that's no longer an issue since at least .423, at least not in North America.

With .545, this should NEVER be an issue - period. When a contact number is linked to more than ONE entry, it will pull the 1st such entry, but WILL display it in SMS's and phone calls.

Do you?

And do you have encryption enabled for your contacts? edit: If so, you will not see your contact names.
