I'm not a MS fan, but if this pans out, they have a winner here!

Unless MS gives away free airtime they are going to have a hard time time against the BlackBerrys, iPhones and Google. The only chance would be if they had a superior hardware platform which would mean it would be fairly expensive.

Do you think MS will become a charity organization?

I'm sure I am not the only one out there who is wondering why it took to Windows Mobile Version 7 to get to something "usable". I am not going to spend one minute of my time, my companies time or money on yet another version of Windows Mobile. 6.5 was going to fix 6. 6 was going to fix 5.

They are Palm, with deeper pockets.

Looks like 7 is a complete rework of the OS. It won't be like any previous WM versions to date.

I checked it out on Engadget, and I'm willing to give it a look when it comes out. I like simplicity, and it appears that this OS may offer that.

My biggest gripes with WM have always been OS speed and battery life. If those two items have been fixed, it could find a place in my device harem.

Competition is good. Keep raising the bar, the others will follow.

You got it. Came out in around 2005(?) just before Christmas (way too late).
Was supposed to be an iPod beater but it wasn't cheaper, wasn't better, and the gimmick was you could "share your music with your friends". You could send them a song (providing they had a Zune too, which was unlikely) and they could enjoy it on their Zune (only 3 plays though lol). Yeah right. And it used WMA (is that still around?), MS's limp compression format, and a bunch of other cheesy stuff like MS Zune store and bla bla. It tanked bigtime. They were late to the party and they brought a pig. Speaking of pigs, when is Winmob 7 due out?

RIM needs to worry. Somehow I doubt OS 6 will have any of this.

I agree, the first Zune stanked!! I have one, BUT the new HD is an entirely different device. I have an iphone and a ipod touch to compare it to and it is a better music device. It doesn't do much else but it is a very cool music player. The added features of winmo 7 should make this UI a winner!!
