Default Iphone + AT&T = HORRIBLE

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry for all you AT&T fans but I think their networks stinks. My company forced me to try the Iphone because they only support Exchange. I told them the only device I would try was the Iphone because I have tried the other mobile window devices (Treo, Q). I didn't even last a day with the Iphone! The device itself is not that bad. I still prefer a BB over it but I could survive if the AT&T service was good. I am in a MAJOR city and can't get any service five feet from my window of my condo. I know, I know, some of you people are going to say that service isn't supposed to include inside a house, condo or any other enclosed area. Fact of the matter is Verizon gives me full service inside my home and inside other dwellings in my city.

Because of this, the Iphone I was forced to buy TODAY is being returned first thing in the morning. No wonder why AT&T can't catch up to Verizon. You may have the coolest handheld devices but you can't use them if your service sucks.

I will say this, if Apple comes out and makes a CDMA device and partners with Verizon, AT&T is going to lose a TON of customers.

I've had no problems with my iPhone 3G and at&t Mobility service. You're an anomaly.

Well I have both an IPhone 3G and a Bold. Both have connection issues at times. But still fully usable....

I had Cingular/AT&T years ago and had the exact same problem; no service in my home. In fact the signal would drop within a block of my house. I cancelled them and went to Nextel which had no problems.

My brother got suckered back to AT&T which promised more bars and less dropped calls... yeah right... it's the same old song and dance... he can't wait to leave them again.

A friend traded his BB in for an iphone and it seems like a cool phone, but I wouldn't go back to AT&T for anything, not to mention the service is too expensive.

It's quite funny actually. I get a FULL signal if I stand in front of my window in my condo. If I step back 10-15 feet from the window, it goes to 1-2 bars and even sometimes jumps off 3G and goes on Edge's network. I can't believe it! I have a BB 8330 on Verizon that I still have active and I get a full signal throughout my condo.

Not happy with AT&T at all.

Digital signal is an on/off thing it doesn't propagate like an analog signal

so 10-15 foot difference can affect the signal strength that much

CDMA towers typically broadcast out to approx 3 miles

GSM towers typically broadcast out to approx 2 miles

thus the coverage differences

Have have both an iPhone (on Exchange) and a BB 8820 (on BES). iPhone 3G signal stability around Boston has been darn near perfect. I've had no 3G issues at all with the iPhone.

The issue(s) you are having with building penetration are probably caused by AT&T not yet moving to 850mhz on the towers in your area. Makes all the difference in the world. The lower the frequency, the better the building penetration (simplistic but accurate).....

The coverage is actually affected more by the frequency (850, 1900, and 2100), switch model, and antena choice than the technology used (CDMA, GSM, WCDMA).

that is very true sir

I was just throwing out a bit of general knowledge. Throwing all that info at a customer boggles their minds

Good point, I guess I could beef about it if I knew where my towers were...lol

The statement actually is, "Dazzle them with brilliance or baffle them with bullsh!t."

I was trying to keep the foul language down.

In my area it seems as though AT&T has the better coverage, although Verizon is just as good, but i receive 20% off of my verizon plans down the line so what would cost me normally 90 is costing me 70 so I am with VZW.
