Why do I feel that RIM had no idea how large the can of worms was...

it was a good idea... and i'm sure they had good intentions... i guess they really do not know that a good percentage of their users are 'enthusiasts'

A good opportunity for third party BES Installation and Support consultants though.

Perfect timing. I'm going to throw my 120 day eval of 2003 server on a vmware session with BES express and tie it into our exchange server for testing.

I hope that everyone that is trying to do this at home realizes that ISP is probably blocking mail relaying

In case SAS is still reading, I think I had a similar problem to the one he reported, but on my BES 4.0 server. The solution was to install the Exchange Admin Tools and Exchange Service Pack on the BES server.

Also, regarding the Microsoft Patch, I got an email from Blackberry talking about it. I tried to post it here, but I kept getting blocked because it contains URL's and I haven't posted 10 times yet. Kinda frustrating...

Anyway, it refers to MS KB912918 and Blackberry Article Number KB-04707.

Hope this helps.

Guess I'm slow... just saw that someone already posted the email in a different thread...

I hope you realize how NOT trivial it is to add/remove Exchange servers in AD.

hey
I have a uqick question for you experts out there.. I have an exchange server setup, where I can host multiple emails for multiple domains.. can I us the enterprise server express solution with this kind of setup?

Right now, I am forwarding all my emails to one email... I would like to avoid doing that and keep emails seperate if possible...

does anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
kunal

Call me silly about the licensing on this promo that RIM has, but if you read the notes at the bottom of the page that you enter your PIN number on, it states it can only be downloaded once per email server. It doesn't say anything about free licenses per server, which to me means you should be able to register all your PINs for 1 free cal each.

Can someone clarify this? To me, if this is not what was meant, then it should read something along the lines of only one free cal per email server or domain...

Has anyone tried installing the software on a XP Pro machine, instead of Windows Server 2003? I'm not sure if that would work?

Actually, I'm now having an issue with (and without) hotfix 1 within Blackberry Manager 4.1. When I click on the the server name (and in a few other locations), I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error, in bbmgrw32.exe - abnormal program termination.

EDIT - whoops - looks like I forgot to install the .Net Framework 1.1 Redistributable and SP1... I guess .Net 2.0 won't cut it.

Was there any issues, or did you just follow the steps in the manual? Also, when I downloaded the sofware I got "besx_4.1.0.[1] as the file. How in the world do I open/use that?

i would kindly suggest that if you are stuck there, you may not have the technical skills to install and operate the infracstructure required for BES.

Your right! I'll just order a Motorola Q and use Active Sync from Microsoft. Much easier, cheaper and I guess reliable.
