My device is not yet a year and a half and it's got some problems. The letter R does not work, letter E often does not work, and number 3 is not doing to hot either, and I'm on my 3rd battery in about 15 months. Trackball only works (sort of) if I press the alt key, I took my phone in to Verizon to have them look at it, they said it was not moisture damage, but a likely defect and that were a few lots of this phone that are known to be bad. They said it is overheating and frying my battery, and that my best bet is to replace the device. I'd like to selvedge the phone as best as possible. Any ideas or is this thing on its deathbed?

Maybe inside it may dusty and under the keys need to be cleaned. I have had that experience. maybe you can get a techie to have a look.

This is a pic of your keypad once the dome switches are lifted.
Some times the switches do get cracked because of extensive use or abuse. If they do crack they can sometimes stick to the pad causing the switch to remain open. This can jam other buttons & also cause the trackpad/trackball to stop working. These dome switches can be sourced from almost any other broken cell phone but u will just have to find one one of a similar size. Replacing them is easy....just peel of the damaged one & stick on the good one. It will be a good idea to inspect & clean the other dome switches & the board before reassembly.......

.....In some cases it may be dirt or moisture on the trackball/trackpad IC, in which case just clean with alcohol & a clean toothbrush. If that doesnt help then the IC or the trackball/trackpad may need to be replaced.
