Default Ring Tone Location

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know where the system ring tones, that came on the BB 9000, are located? When I go to my profiles I can select the ring tone - but when I browse for the ring (through explorer) I cannot find them. I am trying to download them and transfer them to my BB 9800.

Thanks in adavanced.

You should have a ringtones folder on your microSD card, if you are using one, in the BlackBerry folder. When you download ringstones, that is probably where they are going by default.

In device memory, check /Device Memory/home/user/ringtones/

TO be clear, I am looking for the ringtones that came default on the BB 9000. I checked under /Device Memory/home/user/ringtones/ and the folder is empty - I even made sure that I was showing hidden files - doesn't make sense. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

When you are editing profiles and you select to change a tone, do you see the list of choices? And do tones play as you change to another and pause, etc.?

The stock ringtones on my device are in the device memory location I wrote above.

Yes, I see them as a choice and they play as I change to other tones...like I send - doesn't make sense. Do you know any where I could download those tones? Thanks.

No, it doesn't make sense. Things that don't make sense are usually fixed with a 30-second battery removal. Have you tried that yet? (Do it with the power on. Wait at least 30 seconds before replacing the battery.)

The stock ringtones on my 9000 seem to be in /system/samples/ringtones folder which can be viewed with the file manager on the device but you have to check "show hidden".

However looking at the properties of one, the files seem to have a .rem extension and other properties which suggests that RIM may not want these to move from device to device.

That's interesting. I also have ringtones in device memory/samples/ringtones. Those look to be all .m4a files.

Those in device memory/home/ringtones are .mid and .mp3.

Currious.

Yah, all the stock ringtones in my /system/samples/ringtones folder are named [whatever name].m4a.rem.

Ira, do any of your sample ringtones have a .rem extension?

No. If you do, then you have encryption enabled, or did, and include media files is set to yes. I imagine any other audio, video, or image files also have .rem extensions.

I have encryption enabled, but set to not include media files. That works on the video, music, pictures, and rintones folders, but for some reason the media files in the podcasts folder are encypted. Another curiosity.

Never had encryption enabled that I am aware of and bought the device new from AT&T. The only files with that extension are on the /system folder. All other media, video, audio in other folders have regular file extensions. I am suspecting it is a 9000'ism.

Regardless, I suspect I have veered this discussion off track. Didn't mean to threadjack. Only trying to provided useful data for the OP.
