I am about to take a long flight and wanted to know if there is an airplane mode on our curves? I have the Verizon Curve and won't be able to stand no games for the flight lol.

Menu / Manage Connections / Uncheck Mobile network and you are set to operate in the airplane (after take off).

After landing, do the same and Check Mobile Network.

Turn off a wireless connection

You should turn off wireless connections in certain places, such as on an airplane or in a hospital. For more information, see the safety and product information booklet for your BlackBerry® device.

1. On the Home screen or in the application list, click Manage Connections.
2. Perform one of the following actions:
xxx8226; To turn off a wireless connection, clear the check box beside the connection type.
xxx8226; To turn off all wireless connections, click Turn All Connections Off.

To turn on a wireless connection again, select the check box beside the connection type or click Restore Connections.

Most of the airlines I use now specifically mention BBs in the standard "turn off all cell phones for duration of flight" pre-flight tickbox.

Do let us know if you get a tap on the shoulder whilst playing BrickBreaker, the ensuing conversation is usually interesting.

A related question... what does the "profile" OFF setting do?? Just make sure that the phone doesn't vibrate or make noise if you get a call/data, etc? The word suggested that it would be the same as turning connections off.

Profile "OFF" is not "Airplane Mode".

Off is all alerts and vibrations "off".

I fly very frequently in the states and have not had a problem with the flight attendants. I think so many phones these days are used as multimedia platforms, they are pretty savvy about it. The only question I have ever gotten is "Is that in airplane mode?"

Most of the ones that I have been on require that all electronics be turned off for takeoff and landing. In such cases, turn off all connections before powering down. When your BB is powered up it will be in airplane mode.

I do what takeshi said. Never is a problem. It is interesting to hear the other airline passengers when asked to turn it off. Saw one guy almost get hauled off the plane because he was being rude about turning it off. It was entertaining.

My mom is a flight attendant and she has passengers argue with her all the time that there is no way to completely turn off a blackberry...she doesn't know how on all models so she makes them pull the battery if they refuse to power it off during take off

that will do it, yea.

Tell your Mom to remember to tell them on "most" current BlackBerry models, go to Manage Connections icon > and disable or UNcheck the Mobile Network box. Then turn the BB off (or remove the battery). When they turn it back on (or insert the battery) the signal will be OFF and in what we call "airplane mode".

Thanks -- She knows how to turn wireless off but at the start of the flight passengers are asked to turn electronic devices off completely - that is what they say can't be done. I have shown her the power off icon and how to hold in the power button for more than three seconds routes and if all else fails take out the battery till they can use the device in "airplane mode".

Holding the power button for three seconds does not turn a blackberry off; hence the arguing from the passengers. The only way to turn curves and pearls off is to take the battery out. If you dont believe me test it for yourself.
Turning off electronics is a crock of you know what anyhow.

um it cant be turned off... test it yourself. And post three refers to turning off the radio. A lot of laws are complete bs, Im used to it. Most people are ignorant to the fact that you cant turn the bb completely off, so its not like flight attendants are checking to see if my battery is pulled (at least not yet)

You're right on post # 3. my bad. When I click 'Turn Power Off', the device sure seems to be completely off. No lights are on and nothing works. So you don't think that means it's really off?

On the curve and pearl (Im not sure about others), puttin gyour phone in "standy" is kind of like the equivalent of the windows screen saver with a keyboard lock. When you turn the power off, its like putting windows in hibernate. When you turn your phone back on everything is in the same state as it was when you turned it off (ie, browser still on same page, stay logged into messenger accounts). Im not sure of any programs other than bb weather, but that program will atempt to update when your phone is off. Im farily sure that this is why blackberry insists on a battery pull for troubleshooting.

Hmm... this doesn't say Standby. It says Off. It sure seems to me like it's completely off. Maybe something is running internally, but I can't access anything on the device when it's Off. It an airline attendant looked at it, I'm sure they would think it was really Off because there are no lights, no visible activity, buttons don't work, etc.
