Default Any Telmap Users?

Please Login to Remove!

No North American product yet (but somehow they provide to Mapquest Mobile), so I want to see if anyone in Europe is using them.

They offer lifetime and monthly plans

Telmap store

Are they too expensive?

I decided to dl the 7130e version on to my Pearl and it appears to be working fine.

Well I loaded the Sprint 8703e version which was 2.30.86 and it didn't allow me to connect to the BT puck. Otherwise it looks like a good product with nice graphics.

Is the 8703 active? I thought it uses the netwrok and there is no need for a puck.

Wirelessly posted (8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I put the 8703 jad on my 8700c. It would work if I could connect the GPS puck. Apparently in OS 4.2 you can do that apart from programs doing it. That's why it works on the pearl IMO. Can anyone confirm this 4.2 feature.

I tried the 8703e version and I could not connect to the GPS via My Location. Deleted, loaded the 7130e xxx8211; v2.30.85 xxx8211; build: 085 and connected without a problem.

Have you tried any of the other dl links?

Yes I tried the 7520 version and it threw a java midlet error on my 8700. That was .84. The 8703 version is .86 and it did not connect automatically like your .85 version did.

I think the 71xx versions won't have the right screen on the 8700 series.

OK. I finaly got it to work on the Pearl (the 7130 version). At first it would not connect to the Puck so I gave up on it, but just before I thought to my self may what if I start BB Maps and start GPS. Well I did so and then switched apps to mapquest and it acquired the position.

I wnet over it quickly but I will try it out on the road durring the day. (Stinsonddog, I will PM you with my findings and hopefully it will help in updating your tips)

Maybe I should try again using that method.

I got it runing today but for my destination it would get the rout but would not keep up while driving. I found its loading of maps to be way too slow based on currennt location. So far I see that BB Maps to be the fastest, Telenav is next and Mapquest is a distant third. Wayfinder is also faster than it.

That's strange. I thought it loads all the maps and routes during the initial "calculating route" stage? At the end of the "calculating route" progress bar, it gives a voice prompt saying that all routes are loaded. When I used mine, if I don't go off the route too far, it doesn't need to load any more data.

Sorry if it came out wrong, I was talking about teh initial load it took way much longer than Telenav.

That's because MQ Navigator loads the whole route at once but TeleNav has to keep accessing the server. TeleNav appears to load faster but it's not loading everything. I prefer MQ Navigator. The graphics and sound are superior to TeleNav. The only down side is that you can't pull addresses from your address book like you can with TeleNav.

Ok didn't really work for me to try connecting through BBMaps first using the 8703 version .86.

Well from what i see is that Mapquest is a flop on the BB pearl. No mater what I did it would not follow, after donloading it just stays at teh same point of teh starting point and it is a no go.

Too bad, may be it would be best to try it when it is actualy available for us to try. Right now, with the new telenave (4.7) I like it more that Mpaquest based on what I have been able to see so far (forget following the rout) one thing I like about it is the address entry but like was said above it is not connected to teh address book. At the end it actualy stoped working with the GPS puck and the other programs could not access it. I had to reset the Puck and re-pair it with teh BB to work again. The 3 d map view and the detail in tlelmap is actualy better. Now one thing it has is that it actualy gets my house right on the map compared to telenav/navteq where it misses by about 500 feet (I had already filed a report to them on this). Same with Gmaps and BB maps. So lets put it this way, teh combo of BB maps and telenav we have the best of both worlds and hopefully BB maps get voice and we will then be set and no more telenav. Or may be wait for GMpas to add this functionality.

the stats: 3 mintues to download rout compared to 1 minute on telenav and 1.10 for BB Maps. I tried a re-rout on Mapquest and it took again 3 minutes while Telenav's was about 15 seonds. By the way, mapquest did not update my location from the rerout start point (I am attributing this to the none ability to keep up with the curent location.
