Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I recently bought a Bluetooth GPS and when using bbMaps and clicking "start GPS" the app feezes and gives me a java uncaught exception error and then closes. When using Telenav (trial) the GPS works great but I need bbmaps to work since telenav is $9 monthly. Do you think an update to the new OS would fix this? Thanks.

Make sure that your Bluetooth is ON before you start the bbMaps application.

This has cured most of my instances of the Java UEE.

You will find yourself using both BBMaps and Telenav. I even use Google Maps as well.

Nah, I like Google Maps better than BBMaps. Telenav, Berrry 411 and Google Maps make a wonderful team.

Nope, that's why I have telenav. That's for driving and google maps is for walking. I see your point though.....you want to see yourself and the paths you cross.

Each application does something specific that the others do not. Be nice to have them all rolled up in one app.

My prediction - Google will implement GPS navigation, but the question is will they upgrade their GUI to take advantage of it. If that is free, then that will pit them head on with Garmin's forthcoming release for the BB and Telenav since they all use Navteq for data.

On the other end RIM and Wayfinder use TeleAtlas for maps (but not POI's).

It can only get better for the consumer, but for now BBMaps is great for the price and so long as the party is in your address book, it's great.

exactly. in fact, the .64 os dramatically increases performance in bbmaps, gps or not. but most importantly, bbmps with gps running doesnt slow down anymore! it woks great with the new os, a huge improvement. no need to look into those other costly options

I hope you're right, because Google Maps has by far the best data for Canadian users (and I presume Telenav, but for whatever reason, they aren't interested in the Canadian market).

In fact, I'm a little frustrated now: there seems to be no decent GPS solution for Canadians:

- Google Maps: best app but no GPS.
- Telenav: not interested in Canadian market.
- BB Maps: only useful GPS program and the vector graphics are lightning fast, but no voice prompts, not even text based prompts. Hopefully this will be improved (seems very easy to implement). Also, data for Canaqdian cities is lacking (many street names, including mine, are actually spelt wrong).
- WayFinder: slow raster graphics (Google Maps are much faster, for whatever reason), same poor Canadian data, and poor, slow WAP interface. Furthermore, I can't enter my province under "State or Country". I am limited to their pre-defined list of states and countries. Silly.

Not sure why I posted this here. Buit there: it's done.

In reality - it takes only a short time to update my page. I think I spent about a 1/2 hour on the update today and about 1 1/2 hours on the weekend for the original. It's fun and I like supporting the community.

Oh yeah, definitely! I've learned a lot just from your page alone.
