Default duplicate contacts

Please Login to Remove!

I don't how things got so bad but for some reason I have duplicate contacts of most entries in my address book.

1 - I'm thinking there must be a way to remove the duplicates without having to manually go through 330 entries.

2 - There must be a way to ensure that this doesn't repeat on the next back-up

The problem is I don't know what's causing the duplicates in order to stop it. I think it may be AT&T back up along with outlook but I don't know how to stop ATT back up

Please help!

disable the AT&T Address Book contact synchronization by opening address-book>menu>options>at&t address book>uncheck wireless sync

re-sync your contacts with outlook or DM

To all interested, I found the solution(s).

TO REMOVE ATT CONTACTS - this must be done online as opposed to the desktop manager.
You must sign into their site at AT&T Address Book - Safe and Accessible Contacts - Wireless from AT&T. For some reason, it takes a few minutes. >> click on the settings tab >> then click on the "sync" button >> then delete your contacts.

TO DELETE CONTACT LISTS for your device - go to contacts - click Options - then type "rset" (that's not a typo). A screen will pop up to verify if you want to wipe the contacts. Select yes. You can now use desktop manager to repopulate contacts.

I'm confused, doesn't this mean you must have AT&T as a carrier and have enabled this feature with them? I guess what I'm getting at is this a unique AT&T thing?

Correct - but I had ATT contacts backed up along with my two email syncs. I had three copies (from 2 types) for most of my contacts.

I gave instructions for how to remove both types.

My pleasure to share the info. Took me quite some time and effort to learn of that dynamic.

Yeah - ATT sync sounds good but in practice, it's more of a nuisance than it is a help. Manual back up on my hard drive still works fine for me.
