Hey guys/gals, I'm completely new here, and to Black Berry as well. As my name implies, I currently have a Treo. However, I want to get the Pearl from Verizon, at least I think I do. If I do get it, I'm just going to pick it up off of eBay.

So I guess my question is, do all of you like your pearls, and how are they for text messaging and picture messaging. I'm not talking about the keypad or anything, I'm talking about receiving, replying, etc.

I ask, because I hardly use my phones for actual calls, all texting.

I think BB's are great for texting. But now with the BB I use IM more than anything and also BBM.

Thanks for the quick reply. But for the time being, I will not be getting a data plan along with the phone. I'll just be sticking to my current plan.

Then you will NOT be able to get a BB on VZW, they will not allow it.

Like others have stated, on Verizon you CANNOT have a Blackberry without a data plan. Personally it's worth the $30/month... I can't imagine having a blackberry without a data package, it's kinda like having a 4 wheel drive truck with 14 inch tires, you have the power, but can't use it!!

Also, as others have stated, the Pearl is excellent for texting, but I use mine more for IM than texting these days.

Don't let the $30/month discourage you, it's well worth it.

I thought about getting a BB for weeks and months. I finally got a Pearl and remained with Verizon Wireless. Buying a BB was the best move I did, the personal data plan ($30) is more than worth the money. I used to have a smartphone running Windows Mobile and I hated it, it was HORRIBLE. I will never get another phone that is not a BB, I never understood the hype about them until I got one, I was hooked on it in about 5 min. So easy to use, no Microsoft OS, and hands down the best smartphone on the planet.
