Exclamation I am about to GIVE UP!

Please Login to Remove!

I have tried to install apps through dsektop manager but it keeps saying no additional apps for your devise. I have installed and uninstalled it several times! All I can do is OTA apps. I have read some of the other threads about this but nothing is working and I'm getting ******* mad!

And make sure you have the device software loaded also.

Actually, while the information seems valid, in my humble experience, it does not work. I have installed and re-installed the OS's repeatedly. I have a one week old Verizon Pearl 8130 and both the desktop manager and the device's OS's are 4.3. My destop is 4.3.0.15 (August 2007) and my device is 4.3.0.60 platform 3.1.0.32.

I have been unable to install most software, other than the ones that installed directly to the phone such as Google Maps and Opera Mini.

I'm beginning to feel that somehow Verizon "crippled" their app loading system to allow only software that they "approve", though I don't know this for a fact.

I've called Vz tech support, who got in touch with BB tech support, who said that if the desktop manager doesn't load it then it's not 8130 acceptable software. Since there is not any software yet specific to the 8130, I can't test the theory.

Specifically, I've tried installing both Blackberry Alerts and Handango's own InHand, neither successfully.

If anyone has a different experience, please post it.

Hang in there, don't get mad or give up. It will be worth it when you get it figured out!! Happy Holidays!

You are experiencing two different issues here. The first issue is that without the device software installed on the PC along with Desktop Manager no other software will load. This is because the version of apploader.exe isn't compatible with some of the handheld OS's (read that on blackberry.com somewhere.) Once that is installed and you can see the software already loaded on your device in the apploader then you are able to install other software, as well.

The other issue here is what the BB tech support told you. If the software isn't compatible then it may not see it either. 4.3 is pretty new and many apps haven't been updated to be compatible yet.

Bottom line, if you see all the software already installed on your BB in the apploader you should be able to load 3rd party software.

All software installed via the desktop manager must use .alx and .cod files (not .jad like the OTA installer through the BB's Browser.)

I was gonna say...I'm on the same phone/same carrier, and I've been able to load anything I want. Nothing is limited on the VZW Pearl, other than the GPS only working with VZNav...

Ok, color me red-in-the-face. As many times as I've looked at it over the past week, I failed to distinquish between the words "desktop" and "device" in the software download choices. Thinking they were just two desktop software choices, I must have downloaded the desktop software ('cause it had the latest date) about 4 times! I never realized there was a device update until I re-read this thread and took another, hard look at the downloads.

So, thanks to you guys who pointed it all out. My stuff is working now. It is too bad, though, that both the Vz and the BB techs are clueless about this.

Btw, I am, and have been, a loyal Verizon customer for many, many years. So I apologize if my reference to the possibility of Verizon's "crippling" of their devices offended anyone. It is a common area of discussion on certain usenet groups and I assumed it was widely believed. The best is always targeted for the most criticism.

Anyway, thanks again.

Yep. And another common mistake is that people look at their device's OS - see that it's the "latest" - and then assume they don't need to download / reinstall it. But it MUST BE DONE for anything to be installable for the PC.

Glad you figured it out.
