I recently dropped my Bold 9930 and it now has a slight crack in the touch screen. I was looking online and saw some sites that sell replacement screens for around $30. I am not technically savvy and the BB is employer issued so I'd rather not risk breaking it. Is it easy to replace the screen? What are the chances I damage my phone in the process?
The screen cab be swapped but you need to be careful and follow directions. Make sure it the exact number replacement (EXACTLY) and look on the internet for youtube or other videos on how to replace a LCD in a 9930.
I saw a few. If you think you can do it then try. Worse case you reassemble it and hope for the best but I think you will find it's not that bad to swap the LCD.
Yup, I got that tsac and thanks for trying to clarify. But my opinion is, don't make the situation worse by trying to work on the device as it was an honest accident by dropping it. Just my two cents.
Thanks all - I work for the government and it's a major production when someone breaks their BB. Would like to avoid the hassle and fix it myself if possible.
One more question, how do I know the difference between a crack in the digitizer and a crack in the LCD? Do I definitely need to replace both?
If it were me I would consider both. Once you open the BB you may find it easier to simply replace both. Not sure of the cost for both parts but if they are reasonable I would go for it.
Also reading some of the internet videos, it is wise to check the connector cables once you pull the covers and make sure you dont damage them. It seems to be a problem with people who have had problems after replacement. It sounded like some were very rough in the removal and broke cables.
