Default BES & BIS IT Policy issue

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I posted on blackberry's support forum but got no replies after 2 weeks I figure I'd try a site that actually looks like they answer people.

Background:

I had an 8820 with OS 4.2(I think) connected to BES for Work and I used my carriers BIS website to get 2 more accounts.

I have a policy applied that restricts me from sending mail out using BIS, but I could receive with no issues.

Problem:

I got a new phone. 9300 with OS 6

It's using the same IT policy as the old phone. I went to my carriers BIS website and moved the accounts to the new device. The site shows the correct information. I even remove and readded the accounts.

I called my carrier and worked with Tech support, they see in their logs that the BIS server is pushing the emails to my phone but nothing arrives. They confirmed it's the right device and say it's an IT policy.

If I'm using the same policy as the old phone then why can't I receive these accounts just like before? Is there some change to OS 6 that wasn't there before?

Note: If I change my IT policy on the BES server to defaults, I do receive the emails on my phone. So it's definately Policy related.

Hopefully someone can point me to the policies that are causing this issue, I do have access to the BES server and it's policies (but I'm not the BES admin, he's on vacation).

If your company has pushed their IT Policy to your device, then you should not try to circumvent it,unless you want to look for another job.

You should wait until the BES Admin returns and talk to him/her and your IT Staff. Many firms will terminate you for trying to change or go around their IT policy. It is there for a reason. I seriously doubt that you will get any help here.

If you feel the need for your personal email and other data, then get another device and don't mix personal and business on the same BB.

Dub, you may want to re-read my post. If I wanted to avoid policies I would use our "default" policy which is not locked down. I'm not doing anything that would be grounds of terminiation. But I guess you can't see past that.

My BES admin allows us to use the BIS website, he's the one who gave me our carriers website to setup my device. I never claimed they were personal accounts. They are work related since I manage our email servers.

The question remains the same. The policy on the phones are the same and does not work correctly on the 9300 as it did with the 8820. So what has change?

Are you sure the 8820 had os 4.2.0 or higher?
I suspect it actually had 4.1.x

The policy you're looking for is in the Security policy group.
'Firewall Block Incoming Messages'
That policy setting is used to prevent incoming BIS messages (and other types of messages as well.)

This policy only affects devices with handheld OS 4.2.0 or higher, which is why I think you're seeing it enforced on the 9300 but not on the 8820.

Ok, I had a look. Under Security / Firewall Block incoming messages and None of the boxes are check.

In the policy it shows "SMS, MMS, BIS, PIN public, PIN corp, Enterprise messages" but none of these have a check mark.

My BES admin is in this week and I am talking with him. We have made a copy of the Policy and I'm going to change the Service Exclusivity / Allow other message services from false to True and see if that works. This policy should only block outgoing but it's worth a shot.

***Update***

So it appears OS 6 interprets the policy "Allow other message services" differently then the old 8820. When i set this policy to True I was able to receive messages. Even though it clearly has been noted "Set this rule to False to force all outbound messages through your organization's BlackBerry Enterprise Server and prevent users from sending outbound messages from other message services."
