In the old DOS system, such files were rarely useful. Can I delete them from my BB Tour without harm?

I cannot find any reference to those at RIM. where are you seeing them? On the BB or in a folder on the PC?

They are on the BB. Typically, they were fragments of other files that got stranded. I know that when we ran chkdsk in the DOS system, they were created from lost clusters and the like.

I googled blackberry .chk files and (not yet allowed to post URLs); I don't recall making any repairs. Author stated:

On the 9650 Bold this is a known issue: when booting, the device often indicates it found a corrupted memory card. If you choose "Repair", it asks if you want to convert lost clusters to files. File0000.chk would be one of those files; very much like chkdsk on a PC as noted in this thread. I delete mine and haven't had any negative consequences.
