Rule of thumb would dictate that if "Internal GPS" is not available in BBMaps it probably still doesn't work.

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted, but the other part is still right.

Bad idea! Don't disconnect your BB at any time when installing any new software. Once it's finished and it's in the long rebooting process you can disconnect from the PC.

(Yes, make sure BB is not connected while installing to the PC.)

And you won't. The disable code is in the rim8830c.* file in the CDMA directory. This is the firmware for the phone. It's the firmware that checks the phone for Vendor ID and Model Number. If the hardware responds with 105 and 8830 GPS is disabled. That's how that works.

Civic,
I have been assisting people in OS updates on the BB for quite some time. I am not wrong on this. Deleting the vendor.xml works for installing this OS on ALL 8830's, including Verizon and I will continue to suggest people do so. If I leave it out then 200 people will post that they "installed the OS to the PC but when I connect it says no software installed for the device, etc." Verizon users are not the only ones installing this new OS.

As far as themes go, using javaloader takes longer and is more complicated for most people than editing the .alx file. The edited .alx file is the simplest and quickest way to add themes.

LBS is just Blackberry Maps application. It can be used with or without GPS.

Wanted to add that you can use javaloader.exe with the following command and it'll only reboot the device one (so you don't have to load each cod file individually).

javaloader -u load first_theme_file.cod second_theme_file.cod third_theme_file.cod and so on and so on. Upon Enter the javaloader program will load each of the cods in the command line one after the other and only trigger a reboot at the end. So you can load 1 or 10 this way. Just make sure the theme cod files and javaloader program is in the same directory. Just FYI.

And it works fine if you're someone like you or I who understands DOS/CMD prompts. Many people have no idea how to do this.

Yep, as a matter of fact any cod file that has LBS in the name is really just Blackberry Maps. It has different modules.

That's how I feel every time I read through one of these VZW 8830 GPS threads.
