BeerFox, were you charged the 5 cents with the 7100t-Oz client? And is it the same with VeriChat?
Yes, the 5 cents was the native 7100t Oz client; I got dinged 5 cents for each incoming or outgoing message. This was on OS 4.0.198. Once I switched to VeriChat, it used GPRS, and there were no additional charges (all GPRS seems covered under the unlimited internet plan).

Fortunately, I switched fairly quickly, so the extra charges were only $2 ;)

Update : I have been logged in all day yesterday and today and no SMS messages are used. This solution is good people who have included SMS messages. If not if you use the web AIM that is free with no messages used but it is not quick. It does notify you when IM messages come in for you.

Default SIM Card Full Error - Solution

And perhaps while we're on the SMS options screen, someone can explain to me "Network to send over:". I can choose GSM, GPRS, or GPRS preferred. What's the difference? Why would I want to choose one over the other.
I have been using the OZ IM client for a day with light usage. All of a sudden I started to get the message SIM Card Full. I called TMO support and they were clueless. I tried to remove the sim and reinsert it & reboot the RIM with the error showing up after a minute.

I uninstalled the IM client and when it rebooted I started to get 30 SMS messages. The client must have been storing them and when I got rid of it, it put them in my inbox.

I guess this appliation works with the 7230 but there must be some RIM functions on 7100 that gets rid of it.

I uninstalled the client on my 7230 yesterday and had a similar experience -- the SMS messages automagically appeared in my inbox. I didn't like the possibility I would be hit with a 5 cent charge for every message sent or received. So much for exploring new frontiers.

Verichat will not charge you per IM. Its a totally different service. There is a yearly fee, but the chatting is much better, as whole conversations are in front of you and you can do multiple convos at once.

Thumbs up

Just installed the software and I'm so glad with it. Don't want to brag or anything but I don't think I don't have to worry about the bill as I got the unlimited sms/im from t-mobile a couple of months back for $9.99/mo and it makes it really convenient for me to message all of my friends and family on my BB.

If anybody could provide a fix for the SIM card full message when using this program, please post it right away! Man this is so disappointing.

yes I did post it. You have to delete the application and all of the SMS will come in. How to prevent it, that I am not sure of.

Yeah same thing happened to me.

Like he said just uninstall the application and all the sms messages will show up in your inbox right after that and you can then delete them and you will be fine. This application was great, I just wished we knew how to get around it. Does anybody know?

I guess all of us are still in the same boat. Unless you're one of the lucky ones who already got the 7290. I just hope that they make this kind of app for the 72xx and 77xx.

Im trying this out now. When i upgraded to 4.0 from t-mobile my instant messaging client stopped working on my blackberry7100t, maybe this is why they came out with a seperate package.

If you don't have a 7290. Forget about this app. I just bought IM+ by Shape Services 2.1 and a lot of the bugs has been taken out and some tweaks has been made. I am actually online for the rest of the day and it never froze on me. I guess it's worth paying $45 since you get lifetime updates. So much for this free IM from T-Mobile.

I'm much happier with the 2.1 version of IM+. The chat interface was awful in 2.0 and is much better with 2.1. I have seen the occasional error message pop up but at least with 2.1 it doesn't total hang the application forcing me to do a hard reboot. I also stay online all day long and even when I go into an area without coverage IM+ will automatically reconnect when coverage is restored, rather quickly too. Now if they can just make the status of AIM users show up instead of always being listed as online and get rid of the few remaining bugs it would be great. Oh and single key sending while in a chat window would be cool too.

Let's just wait. I bet they are working on a lot of things to improve this app. So far so good, this is the best IM app I've seen so far.

I am sure they are. Even their web site is improving. There is more information there now than there was before and even a better method of reporting problems. I actually just found out reading their site that I should be using the Regular (BES) version instead of the WAP version I am running since I have v4.0 of the OS. They say it worked even better. I'll have to try loading it when I get home since their OTA link isn't working for me.
